Good morning, typical bank holiday weather....it's pouring here and has been most of the night.

Slept a whole FIVE hours after finally drifting off at 5am!
I was washing up at 3.30am in my nightshirt. I'm like that advert for Nytol, I'd be hoovering if it didn't wake o/h.

Belgium Grand Prix this weekend, my favourite track. Love to listen to the cars flat out through Eau Rouge, sorts the men from the boys.

Good to see you Georgy, thanks for the advice I'll give it a go.
Love the smell of lavender. A neighbour bought me some lavender honey back from France, delicious.

I think it's an age thing I'm so hot and sleeping next to a human radiator doesn't help.

Hope you and Lindy have a happier experience with Aston Villa than we did last week.
We need some decent defenders. How many times have I said that?

Glad you had some sleep. I find some camomile tea and relaxation breathing helps me sleep. Having said that, I found it really difficult to sleep last night - so humid and no air stirring!

Going to a ruby wedding party tonight so will have to have a nap. We have had some rain but not much.

Hope you get some sleep tonight Lena. I read somewhere that it is better for you to just lie in the dark rather than get up and do anything. Don't know if it is true, but that is what I do.

Know what you mean about age-induced heat, exacerbated by the human radiator factor, Lena! I try always to have the window open, but o/h doesn't like it.......I just seem to need a lot more air than he does!

We did okay against Villa but we weren't anything to get excited about I think both our teams need good defenders Lena

Hope you're sleeping as I write this - somehow I doubt it!

Anyway goodnight all .....and sleep tight

Just throwing this out there for ideas....cos some of you have such good ideas...

My mum is going to be 80 next year, and wants to do something special to celebrate...but what? It cant really be that expensive if we are going to try and get all the grandkids involved. At the moment my current idea is to go away to a country hotel somewhere for the weekend, then we can have a family meal on the Saturday and breakfast on sunday morning. So do any of you know of any lovely reasonably priced hotels, maybe in the Oxford area, Cos I want it to be fairly central for everyone?

I've still no real idea what to do about the cats.....

I don't really want to just get rid of them, they are lovely creatures and its not their fault I just don't want them any more, and as people say the rehoming centres are probably full at the moment.

Its a kind of watch this space kind of thing, Although I doubt if anything much will change!!!

Augusta

I've been to a couple of weddings and dinners here:

http://www.cotswold-inns-hotels.co.u...hotel?/baytree

It's about 20 miles west of Oxford in a small Cotswold town, sleepy but with a duck pond, ancient church, beautiful buildings and some 'crafty' shopping.......

I'll put my thinking cap on but it's the first place that springs to mind

Also, if you click through, it might give you some ideas of other hotels nearby....the 'wedding open days' page gives some, for example.... Hope you find somewhere suitable, it's lovely to celebrate this sort of thing with a bit of a flourish, I think

PS When my mum was 90 , I sent out cards asking people to send me photos they might have, so I could add to my own limited collection, and also to let me know of any interesting stories. Then I made up an album.....kind of 'this is your life' . Ooooh, don't get me started, I love this kind of thing

Hmmm - reasonably priced hotels - what about a travel lodge or Premier Inns? They are basic, but clean and not too expensive - especially if you book online in advance. The only ones I know of in Oxford is Malmaison, The Randolph, Old Parsonage and The Old Bank or something like that. You might get some good internet deals. What about calling Tourist Information and ask them?

Morning all.

I had a lovely evening at the party. My o/h was embarrassing in his boredom and his remarks about noise.. Think I will go by myself next time. The friends had dinner in a marquee and had a magician, great singer - and an Elvis impersonator. Felt very privileged to be invited.

Wonder how the cricket is going ? England need to shore up their top order batting.

Has anyone else discovered Channel 61 on Freeview? Spent yesterday afternoon re-watching Winds of War. They also have some half-decent films too. Can't find a schedule for them anywhere.

Well, wonder what John is up to these days? No pictures, no information - I am getting very frustrated with the lack of information

i,m alway willing to give anything a go

not really one for just popping a pill, great believer in diet helps with lots of problems, so i always look for a alternative,
before going down that route

i have a friend, who was suffering with night sweats, hot flashes, she has introduced soya milk into her diet, and vitamin e, so Almonds and sunflower seeds.

she has found this a great help and of course avoiding the trigger foods, Caffeine, alcohol and some spices

and it can't hurt always worth a try

There's actually a travel lodge within walking distance of the Bay Tree - my daughter has stayed there - so you could cut prices - and maybe suit children - by staying there and eating at the Bay Tree

Glad you enjoyed the party nyannie, it sounds great

And yes, our top order batting has been awful. Where would we have been this series without Ian Bell??

Thats so kind of you
it really was sort of silly things
son got a puncture
shower sprung a leak
pool cover sunk,
washing machine making huge thumping noises
smelly drain blocked, and then the waiting
for people to fix the stupid things

oh well all sorted now
