I agree. It used to be as easy to steal money when it was kept in coins / notes, as it is now. And spies and 'listeners' have always been around. I think it's really the scale of potential thefts of money or information that's scary now. The principle is the same .........

Just got back from Ladies Night....phew! Am completely exhausted

It went well, though. All the speeches were well received, the food, wine and gifts likewise.....and people danced until we had to get the toastmaster to tell people to leave (in a nice way, of course!) So, panic over.....until the next event!

Better get to bed now....

Sleep tight JJAT

I think you are completely right......and I do agree there have been spying systems forever..... but I still don't think they are right in principle, that level of secrecy leads to its own kind of problems.
In general I think its safer if we work on the principle that information should be open and above board and be open to outside scrutiny.

But then I come from a place where I don't really have anything to hide !!!!

I spose there are security considerations sometimes to consider... But even then its normally the 'baddies' or people with things to hide that operate in secrecy and Im not sure just playing their game makes anything any clearer.

But apparently it is so hard to sift tiny bits of information from the mass of totally irrelevant material on the web...that most of these security systems taps are useless. Its the old principle of looking for a needle in a haystack...

Lindy your evening sounds amazing......I don't think I would be able to organise anything remotely like this...very impressive.

And Georgy we went to see 'Meet the Millers'' last night, what a hilarious film, very funny indeed....I think its directed firmly at a family audience, especially at the parents, cos there are so many things that were so apt for parents of teenagers !!!

have a lovely sunday everyone xxx

It isn't so hard. Guess I am paranoid but before I put anything in paper recycling I tear off my name and address and shred things like old bank statements etc. Except for DS I don't use any forums or blogs - better to be safe than sorry. Guess I've seen too many TV programs and read too many articles about honest people having their security systems breached.

I was going to say the same thing to Lindy. Guess she is a born organizer.

Thanks for the recommendation augusta. Want to see it when I get back. I am not in the mood for anything heavy or sad.

Hope you have a lovely Sunday too augusta.

Thanks for your kind words guys

I have to admit to being just a bit pleased about how last night went - we had nearly 100 guests to entertain after all - however, the success was due to the hard work of lots of people, like the chef, the florists and so on And today I am, as nyannie would say, 'pooped'

Time to get the newspaper out and have a rest......

Have a good day everyone

Morning all.

The holiday countdown begins. I am getting more and more nervous about it and have to stop!

Going out to lunch today with friends who are in reserve about looking after the house. Looking forward to it. Have to do some washing today.

I wonder what John makes of the new Aussie PM. Somehow I don't think he is interested at all in politics. I do find it interesting though that everyone has to vote in Australian elections or risk a fine. Got me thinking about the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. Wonder if she has given up her Australian citizenship?

Well, hope everyone has a lovely day. Glad to see some rain - I was just about to water the garden.

Afternoon all

Just coming round after a truly terrible night's "sleep" last night. Think I got over- excited watching the tennis until 1am. Did crosswords after that to try and make myself tired, but no luck. Will have to ration myself with the men's final tonight as I can't afford another night without sleep!

Nyannie, I am sure you will have a great holiday. Once you step on that plane / boat and down a glass of the local wine, you'll be fine. All your preparations will come into their own and you'll be able to relax without worrying about a thing

We will miss you here but look forward to being regaled with accounts of your adventures when you return

Enjoy this week as well

afternoon all....... its so easy to get overtired isn't it and not be able to sleep.

If I listen completely to my body, I tend to be a real night owl and enjoy staying up late, and getting a second wind. But unfortunately work means having to get up early in the morning so ...I have to make myself go to bed and try to sleep by a reasonable time. Work has a lot to answer for!!!

Nyannie I think you will have a wonderful holiday, I all your preparations will be worth it, and just think of all the stories you will be able to tell. We tend to live life at such a pace its so nice to stop and relax and just have time for yourself.

Morning all.

Sadly I never was a night owl - even at university when we used to cram all night (Anatomy) with a bag of bones figuring out origin, insertion and action. Had big trouble - if it wasn't for chocolate milk and Peter Paul's Almond Joy, I would not have been able to do anything.

How are we all? O/H is going to photocopy passports at work so that is one job saved. I also need to clean house and finish ironing. Trying to rest my foot in the afternoons. Having trouble what book to take to read!

Best go and put laundry on!

evening all..

hasn't the weather turned bitter? I wasn't sure what to read next and have decided to reread some of Terry Pratchett's discworld series. lighthearted yet sort of analytical . He has such a good grasp of people and what motivates them at times. I've read a few of them, and I'm now trying to fill in some of the gaps.

about how cold he is today,
i,m running around in short and a t.shirt
catching up with housework

i need to find some time to read

JK Rowling
The casual Vacancy, just haven,t found the time

Hi georgy - don't know about anyone else but I'm good although I am a nervous wreck worrying about our holiday!

You must have time for yourself georgy and you don't spend that long on here.

Hope you will help keep the thread going while I am away!

My husband did the same thing over the weekend. I told him to either put on a sweater or change into his track suit! You know, he didn't think to do this!

I always find honesty is the best policy - just tell them you haven't had time to read it yet!

Jumpers certainly needed tonight

Must be about 8 degrees max, I should think.....might even close the bedroom window tonight.

Had lunch and dinner out today. Tried to 'eat sensibly', so had two starters on each occasion.....think I'll look like a green salad soon Coffee tonight did come with a yummy (and rather large) piece of marshmallow though!

Off to bed now

Sleep,tight JJAT

Morning all

Gosh, it is humid outside.

Up early as o/h has to go on an unwanted business call. All pool cars taken and the a company wouldn't hire a car for him - he is NOT in a good mood!!!!

I agree with you georgy, it is like having a child sometimes. I have organized the trip, ordered the money, packed essentials, run around creation trying to get a small bag (finally done it), picked out the drip/dry shirts, pressed his jacket, washed and pressed trousers, told the newspaper man the dates we are on holiday, left instructions for the neighbours, charged my phone and got an adaptor plug, bought film and new chip for the camera, made 9 litres of tomato soup, cleaned the house, got up to date prescriptions and taken clothes to dry cleaners - what has he done? Made photocopies of our passports!!!!

Honestly . . . men!!!!
