There has been some really interesting programmes on in the last few days about Kennedy.
National Geographic aired Killing Kennedy with Rob Lowe as JFK last week. His portrayal was very impressive as was Will Rothhaar who played Lee Harvey Oswald. I never knew anything about him really and was stunned to find out he went to live in Russia and married a Russian girl before taking her back to the US. He was interviewed on more than one occasion by the authorities before JFK's assassination.

It's always struck me the Kennedy family have had more than their fair share of tragedy.

It's really difficult to say what the market is like at the moment. Of course some people do move quickly, but my impression is that they're very much in the minority The whole issue of having to get a successful chain together is a nightmare really - you can have people who want your house, but their purchasers fall through, etc, etc. I am tending to only look at buying 'end of chain' or 'quick completion' properties for that reason. Goodness only knows where we'll end up

Guess the trick is NOT to worry about things so much. It just means that moving will take a bit longer.

I dread to think what our moving costs will be - with o/h's lathe, oscilliscopes, milling machine, powerful microscopes etc. . . .think I will have a lie down at the thought of the cost!

He went to the dentist for the first time in about 40 years - he needs about £3000 worth of treatment

dentists are so expensive aren't they? No wonder they aren't often covered in the usual medical insurances!!!!

Ugh, supermarket shopping....the worst shopping of all.

Have to admit I've resorted to internet delivery more than once. I order all the big bulky stuff and anything that doesn't need careful choosing. That just leaves a quick trolley dash round the meat and fresh produce counters.

My order arrives on day and time of my choosing and the only thing I've strained is the arm holding my tea and biscuits.

I can't believe your o/h hasn't been to the dentist for that long.
That is a seriously scarey amount of money. I don't suppose he has insurance either if he doesn't ever go to the dentist.

Very cold and wet here, just had a bit of a hailstorm in fact. Our cat has withdrawn to the bedroom to curl up on the duvet and await better times

Saw the footie last night, really disappointing. I don't know what England have to do to play better . They seemed to put in a lot of effort to no avail.....on the whole they play much better for their club teams.

I agree, I think we may hear from John during the Ashes.....well, probably not directed to us as such, but general tweeting. Wonder if he even knows we're still here? In any case, we can thank him for bringing such a great group together

Am seeing a solicitor tomorrow re mum's finances, will be off to see her this afternoon to explain it to her. Wish me luck!

PS Lena, I also do a regular Internet order for dry groceries and household goods - and drinks Mostly just re-order the previous order, which takes two seconds. Then only have to pick up the fresh food, as you say. Great stuff

Wet day today - got some very bad news about an old friend yesterday and it really has made me reflect.

Still have tear in tendon, however, will wear brace until end of January and then gradually withdraw wearing it. If I have pain or anything, then op - but, I have to wear shoes with the orthotics in the house - YUCH!!!!!!!

Must go and get o/h up.

So the washing machine broke yesterday and flooded the utility room..........wet towels hanging everywhere is such a good look!!!!

But OH came home and fixed it....we had some hair clips caught in the motor....I hadn't realised until my daughter had to call the plumber for her house, that I am so lucky that usually my OH has the ability to fix things....it might take a while...but.....its probably saved us a fortune.....!!


I must investigate online shopping again.....I have done it in the past...but got fed up with the wrong things being substituted...but it might make sense to get the heavy things delivered...Im sure it is cheaper than me just popping into the supermarket for a couple of bits and bobs!!!

Thank goodness your OH fixed the washing machine. They have a £90 call-out charge here.

Going to see my sick friend tomorrow. Wanted to go today but she wasn't feeling great. Her bad news has really affected me. Guess I am at that age.

sorry to hear about your friend Nyannie, its so hard to know what on earth to say or do..


its coming up to xmas isn't it....where the number of things to do seems to start to increase dramatically, I went to an xmas market yesterday which was lovely......full of sweets and nuts and foodstuffs...

And then to see the Hunger Games film, 'Catching Fire' which was stunning....and very very evocative. I know it may perhaps be derivative.......and copying a Japanese book, although it might not, but sometimes powerful stories can be translated and retold...think of all the fairy stories and ancient historical yarns....


now for a brief break before my visit to Tesco's....I must organise this online shopping thing better...


And although I have a couple of books waiting to read...does anyone have any good recommendations for novels? I am re reading all the Hunger games series again....but could do with another story that really grips my imagination.


As for Kennedy, I am very sad he was assassinated...but totally confused by all these conspiracy theories...It seems fairly obvious that Lee Harvey Oswald wasn't the guy that assassinated him, from all the evidence recently presented, but....there are now so many extraneous leads and red herrings I doubt if anyone will ever be able to discover what really happened. It is really heading into fantasy documentaries....made more for the sake of it, than to inform.....Which I find sad and a bit frustrating.

I suppose it does illustrate how easily History can be manipulated to tell the story you want to tell, which may or may not be based on factual evidence.

Isnt it next year we start to have all the documentaries on the anniversary of the First world war? Maybe I will see a documentary on how Siegfried Sassoon and the War poets were all wrong...? And war and the deaths of hundred of men ..is actually a glorious and honourable thing. !!

Morning everyone, sun's shining but it's a bit nippy to say the least.

O/h is in his 'man room' trawling the internet and giving the third degree to any poor soul in a call centre, searching for the best price on house insurance .......think he's putting off the minefield that is the energy companies.... don't any of them have straight forward no nonsense pricing?

My lovely step granddaughter failed her driving test this week managed to hit the kerb while reversing round the corner (instant fail apparently) bless her. She hasn't done that since the first time she reversed so she's very cross with herself. My son has made her rebook straight away (think he's fed up with being a taxi service) and said he'll pay providing she promises to stay away from kerbs.

Gonna have to get my skates on and start this Christmas shopping lark, spoke to my lil sis yesterday and she's planning to come down in a couple of weeks to exchange presents and cards.

Sorry about your step grand daughter. I took driving lessons with two different companies - AA and a private individual and I passed! Nerves always get the better of one.

Feeling a bit more cheerful today - saw the Stuttgart Ballet yesterday. Wonderful - except having to travel around London. Half the tube lines were closed and there were so many roadworks it took over an hour to get to Trafalgar Square. Will NOT be going into London on a Saturday by choice for a while.
