So now it's really difficult to get to mum's.....

The route I usually use is blocked by fallen trees and power lines; the next option is closed due to an accident; the next goes over an ancient bridge where there is flooding and the traffic lights have failed......

That leaves the main A road, which is jam packed as you can imagine. Thankfully we can talk on the phone and she is okay, but she is 92 and frail and I hate this feeling.......

I should be resting but it's very hard not to pace around worrying. Think I'll try to get absorbed in a book.....all this flood monitoring is bad for the spirits

Wish the Liverpool game was live on TV tonight, that would take my mind off it.......

wow..the stories about the flooding and weather are awful...what a crazy situation...Im really glad everyone is ok.

Here in the east, we are starting to get the winds.....and rain....I don't think we are as bad as the thames valley and Cotswolds though. but please please let it stop. Or we really are going to need to start building an ark..

It is crazy to travel around too much in this weather, but what a shame to have to cancel fun things.....

Ive had conjunctivitis a couple of times, now they tell us that its only infectious before you use the eye drops, so once you get them you can carry on as normal. But then again.....we are expected to carry on as normal when sick in any case!

We need to find something positive to chat about to cheer everyone up. This rain really brings out my miserable and sad side. But there must be something positive somewhere....

Did anyone see the ice dancers pink panther costume? it was impressive. ?

I couldn't get to my mums today either,...the road, was closed due to high winds, Actually its the Orwell bridge. which goes up so high its often closed during high winds..but its going to make the rush hour traffic horrendous...

its hard not to be able to just pop in and check they are ok, although they are younger than 92, its still hard to see them getting older

What a lovely post Lindy. I too hope everyone is safe and sound.

We have had 3 power cuts thus far today so have all the candles and matches out - including my beautiful Xmas candles. Torches are to hand and I made some soup which we can heat up - thank goodness for a gas hobs.

We have also powered the generator so we are prepared!

The lid of my dustbin has landed in next door's garden.

I am going NOWHERE unless the trains run on time.

Stay safe everyone and do not take any chances.

BIB I think you are echoing the thoughts of millions there, Augusta Some of us are affected very directly by the storms and floods....and many more are getting depressed by the endless cycle of bad weather and gloom Let's hope for at least a little sunshine soon.

Speaking of which, daughter no 2 is off to South Africa for a short holiday tomorrow, travel permitting. She works so hard, she really deserves it......all being well, at least she will get a dose of sunshine!

And......while I watched the dreary Arsenal - Man U match tonight (sorry Lena ), I had the BBC live text on for Fulham - Liverpool. Wow, that kept me on my toes....and the result was good

Stay safe and sleep tight all

Morning all.

I too have been watching the skating - loved the Free programs.

Just got an email from NYC - terrible snow and ice there. Think the rain might be better as we can at least move around in it.

Spent yesterday spring cleaning my cupboards. Found some meat tenderizer that was 15 years old! How was it there so long?

Hope everyone keeps safe and thinks of nice things. We are making a memory book about my friend to give to her family. I've been thinking of all the good times we had. It helps.

Georgy, you'll be opening a hotel soon good to know you're safe and sound.

I'm watching Sky news as I type and it's looking worse than ever. Newquay is being battered at the moment and now they're saying the floods in Worcester could reach twenty feet high tomorrow!!

The sun is making a very brief appearance at the moment which is just as well as I'm heading out shortly to the dentist, I don't want to be sitting in the chair doing my impression of a drowned rat.

The wind is picking up and they're promising rain around midday, hoping I'll get back before it starts.

Keep safe everyone, I'll check back later to see how we're all doing.
Have a good day.”

I,m not sure, i want to run a free hotel lena

good lord that wind was blowy yesterday and as for the rain, we
had a small stream running down the road. I had a hair appointment, and i was so pleased she
came to me, not sure drown rat is a good look

Hope the dentist went well, and your smile looks like this

i was looking forward to the footie, Man U and Arsenal (sorry lena) was really dreary
but liverpool had me on a edge, right to the end, thank the lord for the last minute goal and internet update

Its been wonderful Nyannie
actually i,m loving all the sport in the winter olympics
but i think i like the curling best, all the shouting of hard when sweeping, bet their
houses have clean floors

NY look awful and so very cold, not sure whether rain or snow is best
think i could do without both if i,m honest

We're staying at home and having a £20 meal deal from M & S ! Romantic or what?

Glad you're okay, Georgy Looking forward to Sunday? We have three house viewings on Saturday so watching the footie will be even more welcome than usual....

Morning all.

Happy Valentine's Day!

We do nothing. O/H is cynical about holidays which benefit the card manufacturers. We will though have a curry delivery and a bottle of fizz. Is this romantic?

Managed to get to the next town via taxi and had a diversion cause of flooding! Trains are up the spout and a nice young man on ther phone told me that unless my trip was necessary, not to go as there are only 3 to 4 trains an hour and they are running about 40 minutes late as they have to go very slow!

Well, have a good day everyone.

Happy Valentine's Day all

I think curry and a bottle of the fizzy stuff is romantic nyannie

Trains are 'up the spout', you say.....is that an American saying? It was one of my dear old Cockney dad's favourites....

Have a good day everyone x

Yet another wild night! Am posting while we still have electricity!

Flood levels rising again on the Thames and other local rivers, and wind is awful.....

Had a bit of a panic earlier today when I couldn't find my debit card Had gone to mum's to do her shopping and had to make do with what I could get with cash......felt awful. Finally found it half an hour ago .....in the file I keep for mum's finances Always look in the most obvious place, that's what I say.......

However, we had a lovely meal for Valentine's Coquilles St Jacques, duck a l'orange and profiteroles, all courtesy of our local M & S Well, and courtesy also of my lovely O/H, who got a meal on the table while I paced around worrying about the card....

Stay safe everyone, and let's hope we do meet up soon

Night all
