My cat is sneezing and sniffing a lot. Could he have the cold?

Just as the title says, my little cat aged 3 is sneezing and sniffing a lot as if he has a bad cold. I have heard that animals can get the cold just like humans. Is that true? If so, what can I do to help him. He's looking at me as if to say "Mummy, I'm not well, please help me" and I don't know whether to bother the vet for a cold, in the same way that I probably wouldn't bother the doctor if I had the cold.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Thanks.

I'd take him to the vet, just in case. If you let him out, he may have inhaled a grass seed which has lodged in his nose, I understand this is quite common.

I didn't take him last night as he seemed so much better when I got in but he sneezed all night again, which kept me awake again, so I've made another appointment for 6:15pm tonight and even if he looks better I'm still going to take him along this time to get him checked out.

Thanks for your concern Sadiecat x

Let us know how he got on. I had a cat down here in Kent (who by co-incidence started off in a refuge in Glasgow - but a long story). He had cat flu - was sneezing all over me. A course of antibiotics and he was as good as new. But do always get then checked out - a cat doesn't usually keep sneezing.

Hi guys. Well I did take him last night. Turns out he does have a bit of a cold but thankfully not cat flu. He's been given antibiotics which I've to give him once a day for a week and if he's no better then I've to go back next week. I did notice that he only sneezed once last night and he slept (as I did) all night. He's decided he doesn't want to go out today - don't blame him as it's back to rain here in Glasgow - so I've left him with plenty of food and water. No doubt will come back home tonight to empty bowls of both!!! That's one thing, he certainly didn't go off his food. He's such a gannet

I had a cat with hay fever a few years ago. Poor thing was forever having sneezing bouts and weeping eyes through summers didn't stop him wanting to go out and enjoy the fields though!

Funnily enough, I did wonder if that's what he had as I am one of the poor sods that gets hayfever all year round .

Oddly enough, I changed the bed as well. Surely coincidental?

Ah good news!

Isn't it odd though that Anti-b's work for cats but humans are told we don't need them
