You need to be specific
Popups from your av that it has updated
Popups from an email client
PopUps from malware client
Popups from Windows control center
Popups in a browser
Popups from the Metro interface or any Metro apps
etc etc

Ask the Mods to move it to the computing forum

Use AdBlocker, but beware. All the stuff on the web has to be paid for somehow, and a lot of sites are funded by ad revenue from those pop-ups. Some sites sense when an AdBlocker is installed and give you snotty little messages about restricting access.

In the end nothing is really "free". You and I wouldn't expect to work for nothing, would we. So if we want a rich and varied web browsing experience then we probably have to accept that ad revenue is one way in which it is funded. Either that, or it's pay-per-view which I don't think anyone wants. Having said all that, I will add that this site has an annoying habit of putting floating ads over the text I want to read, so my AdBlocker filter is active for this site simply because it's not usable for me any other way.
