What do you think of this?
Fair play to her I say! |

Absolutely fair play. The whole ghastly show is a blatant sham - just another vehicle for people with over-sized egos to be aggressive and horrible to each other, then in tern, to be whipped by the headmaster.
It's a fetishistic craze that is sweeping TV in many forms. I hope she is successful in her action and shows it all up for what it really is. |

I would quite like to hear the other side of the story.

An "interview" for a job that isn't based on relevant managerial skills but how loud you can screech hawking crap in a market? And it didn't work out? You don't say!

I really loved the first few series of the Apprentice but it has descended into farce just for ratings. It did appear "real" at the beginning. I hope that the young folk on the Young Apprentice are not disapointed and let down too.

So how is it then fair play? We all know it's a made for TV situation. You said so yourself.
She sounds like an ungrateful cow. I doubt anyone in AS position would let this happen the way she is describing. I suspect it's exactly how it happened, as he's just the front man for a TV show, and probably doesn't give two hoots once the show is over. The situation sounds incredibly believable. |

I've no idea if the situation is as she describes, but she's not the first person to sue Sugar for this sort of thing. Beyond the TV exposure it gives Sugar and his companies, I doubt he really gives a damn who wins as long as he gets to look like a hard-ass. Did anyone who won this tacky, tawdry show actually achieve anything of significant merit during their tenure, or even remain employed there now? I'm betting no.

Interesting case but I always had my doubts about her and can't help but doubt her motives.

Strange why it's never 'happened' in the past.
Well they ended the "job" aspect a while ago, and made it an "investment" instead. And yes, it has happened before. Michelle Dewberry (season 2) lasted under a year. Simon Ambrose (season 3) lasted under a year. Lee McQueen (season 4) managed nearly 2 years but also left under a cloud. Yasmina Siadatan (season 5) lasted 3 weeks. Season 6 brings us to Stella English.... |

If people think the tasks set on that show are indicative of the real nature of the business world then they've got the wrong idea.
However, I think the retooling of the "prize", so to speak, makes it a lot fairer - and no doubt was prompted by the number of disgruntled ex-contestants who seem to be unhappy that they're not getting what they thought. Those ex-contestants are not business-savvy enough to be handed a business of their own to run as was offered - this is plain as daylight from their performances, and to me they seem to suffer delusions of grandeur from what is basically a reality show competition. Good to see that the other year's winner, Tom, is still enjoying his business relationship with AS. Shows that investment is by far the better option for AS and for the show in general. And remember - it's entertainment, people should stop taking it so seriously! |

There's a definite pattern emerging from the show of past contestants not lasting long in the role Alan Sugar gives them. I do think the show is more of a platform for the contestants to take advantage of to gain media experience and boost their profile. I don't believe for a second Alan Sugar gives a hoot about what happens to them afterwards.

The thing I don't get is that she was on a fixed-term contract. Once that runs out there's no obligation on either party to renew, so where's the constructive part of the dismissal?

I wonder what it'd be like if they changed the boss in The Apprentice - but who would people want to watch?

I think it's unfair to suggest he has never given two hoots and the entire show concept is a sham. He gave roles to at least 5 winners in his sub companies and a few of the winners saw out their original contract with him before leaving to pursue other interests.
I think the problem is he may have ran out of projects to give the winners to do somewhere around the time Stella won.. assuming her story is accurate of course. This perhaps explains why the subsequent format of the show changed and moved from Lord Sugar giving them a job to being an investment in a new business. Ie.. Sugar invests, and lets the winner get on with it.. rather than the winner fronting a new project for him. Brief overview of the 8 winners and what they did, or didn't do, with Lord Sugar: Series 1, Tim: Project Director of Amstrad's new Health and Beauty division. Left to pursue other interests in 2007. Series 2, Michelle. Worked for 8 months before going on leave due to personal reasons. Series 3, Simon. Worked for Amsprop, Lord Sugar's property company. Left in 2010. Series 4, Lee. He worked for Lord Sugar's tube advertising company Amscreen. Left in 2010. Series 5, Yasmina. Became pregnant shortly after starting work, then again just before return to work, don't think she went back. Series 6, Stella. See this thread. Series 7, Thomas business partner. Series 8, Ricky business partner. |

So she's suing because she was paid £100,00 for having to do a £35,000 job. I feel her pain

And happened before - as in a similar way, like constructive dismissal or at least allegations. People don't always stay in the same job for ever. After watching a few episodes of the season in question, I can recall her being a bit full of it. Seems she wasn't up to the job and that's why her contract wasn't renewed. Quote:

Just three weeks? Wow.

Yasmina triumphed in the 2009 series of The Apprentice, beating favourite Kate Walsh after Lord Sugar said his gut instinct told him she was the right choice. At the time, Yasmina said: “I feel very lucky. Life is brilliant.”
The steely brunette, known as Mina and dubbed the ultimate alpha female, was tipped for greatness. She immediately began working for Sir Alan. But the following year she announced she was pregnant following a whirlwind romance with colleague Andrew *Hepburn. She went on maternity leave at Christmas 2010, and her first child was* born the following month. She was due to return last January, but told bosses she was expecting again. A spokesman for Lord Sugar later said: “Both sides would have liked to work with each other for longer but Lord Sugar knows *family must come first. “Yasmina did a great job and the door is always open should she ever want to return.” |
