Overheating PS3
My kids play on the PS3 quite a lot and then when I go to play a BR disc, it sometime shuts down. Google has suggested this could be down to overheating. Can anyone recommend a cooling fan to attach to or sit below the PS3?

You can get dedicated fans for the PS3, they just connect to USB, cheap enough at just over a tenner.
May be cheaper elsewhere, amazon just used for illustration purposes. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Competition-.../dp/B001KZH62Y If you have the PS3 slim. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COOLING-FA...-/270744907477 If you like blue lights. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Horizontal-s...pd_sim_vg_h__5 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cool-Horizon...ag_stp_s2_edpp |

If the PS3 is shutting down due to overheating, it could be on its way out

Never shuts down during their gameplay at all. Only problem arises if I try to play a BR disc shortly after their game play. There was some dust in the vents which I have hoovered out and have installed a fan thing underneath that makes the PS3 light up like a light sabre. The kids love it but the Mrs ain't so keen. Kids win.

Playing the games will make the consul generate far more heat than just a BluRay film...It could be another problem and not overheating otherwise I would have thought game play would have caused shut down as well.
Are you trying to play the same movie each time or are different ones causing the problem? |

Is the inbuilt fan actually working on the PS3?
Can you hear it? |

The system can be configured to turn itself off after as little as an hour of no controller input, even if you're watching a movie. Check in Settings > Power Save Settings > System Auto-Off |
