ARRGH!!! should not have read this. I have seen this and can't remember the name, now it's going to annoy me.

What is worse, I seem to recall it was flippin' pointless, a waste of time too

Found a thread on another forum: http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/ca...oney-taxi.html which leads to this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065697/

So it appears to be an American TV show. Was it shown on British TV?

I'm 99.9% certain that it's The Engagement as in my previous post. The Engagement is a TV film adapted by Tom Stoppard from his own radio play The Dissolution of Dominic Boot. If you look that play up on the BBC web site it gives the synopsis as "Dominic travels around London trying to raise cash for the mounting taxi fare."

Surely that's exactly what the OP described?

By the way, although the OP thought the film was rubbish, Stoppard is one of the most respected writers of the modern era. He's written straight film scripts like Empire of the Sun (Bafta for best adapted screenplay) and Shakespeare in Love (Oscar for best original screenplay). But he does love to play with words and ideas and is known for combining popular culture with deeper themes (e.g. combining football with an attack on totalitarian politics in Professional Foul).
