I thought Chinese Democracy (Guns n Roses latest album) is really good). Admittedly only Axl Rose from the original group is present though

Oh, I love Van Canto! They do a fab Master Of Puppets

I'm not going to post that though. I'm going to post their cover of Sabaton's Primo Victoria, with Joakim from Sabaton guesting.

Van Canto - Primo Victoria

Runn diggy dun dun Dennis rocking the Joakim shades & facial hair

I have so say though, much as I love them, without Inga, it would just be a bunch of German blokes making funny noises, with a generic lead vocal. She makes them something special

Personally I think Sabaton should return the favour & cover this. It fits perfectly with their general war theme.

Try these:

Waylander - Born to Fight

Eluveitie - Inis Mona

Cruachan - The Gael

Finntroll - Trollhammaren

Not Irish, but have a Celtic feel to them

Eluveitie aren't Irish either, they're Swiss. I've been meaning to check them out for ages, so thanks for posting Trollhammaren's always good for a laugh, isn't it?

The Waylander track is ok but the Cruachan one's a bit dull imo.

The Waylander track might be the sort of thing dodger's looking for?

That was how I discovered Sabaton.

I wouldn't call Finntroll Celtic. Those sounds have been an integral part of Scandinavian folk music for more than a millennium.

I sort of discovered them around the same time, just a few months ago. Van Canto's such a daft idea, yet it works Most of the time anyway. Their cover of Alice Cooper's Bed Of Nails is terrible.

I'm kinda rediscovering metal atm after many years of not listening to it at all & I'm loving so much of what the newer bands are doing with it. My ears are even getting used to harsh vocals, so I'm enjoying more & more of stuff I may have dismissed just a few weeks ago.

It took me a couple of years to be able to appreciate harsh vocals, although I think it was because I expected all the bands to sound like screamo, which of course they don't. Eluveitie converted me.

It was Amon Amarth for me. Twilight Of The Thunder God, natch - due to Sabaton's cover So I checked out the original & then more of their stuff & found myself enjoying it.

Have you heard the version on Youtube where someone's combined the two versions? It's one of the most awesome things I've ever heard - better than both original & cover imo

Amon Amarth/Sabaton - Twilight Of The Thunder God

Joachim's voice over Johan's growls, Peter Tagtrens's scream (from the Sabaton cover) & when the two guitar breaks come in together - WOW!

I'd love to see them do this live together.

Hadn't heard of Sludge before this. Hmm, not bad. Could listen again. The Boris track sounds like 1970s punk though. Shouldn't things have moved on a little since then?

*sigh*, it could have been so much better.
Too much tinkering, too many layers etc.
Apparently the 2002 version of that album is killer, but the record company rejected it.

That'll have been Victoria Liedtke who is the other half of Hey Hello. I saw her doing backing vocals for Ginger last year up here in Leeds. I like her to be honest and even more so on the Hey Hello album. Well worth a listen to and if you are into the heavier stuff give the Mutation a listen.

And now something slightly different - Scottish Pirate Metal!

Don't think these guys take themselves too seriously, and for some reason they remind me of Tenpole Tudor.

Alestorm - Shipwrecked

Alestorm - Keelhauled

Alestorm - Death Throes of the Terrorsquid

YES! Love them. You didn't post my favourite though, so I will.

Scraping The Barrel

Many more tales to be told, I hope

And if you don't like them, go & start your own band

They supported Sabaton on their UK tour a couple of years ago but unfortunately, at the time, I didn't know either band existed. I only discovered Alestorm last year & Sabaton earlier this year.
