After two attempts at listening to the new Maiden album but failing due to having to do other things before even getting to the second LP I thought I'd check something.
'The Book of Souls' has eleven tracks. If you put together the eleven longest songs of the great 1980-1988 period, not only do you get an album shorter than TBOS but you also end up with an unbelievably good Iron Maiden album.

1. Phantom of the Opera
2. Hallowed Be Thy Name
3. Revelations
4. To Tame A Land
5. Powerslave
6. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
7. Caught Somewhere in Time
8 Heaven Can Wait
9. The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner
10 Alexander the Great
11. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

One that I've had in my car for the last few days and have listened to three or four times with no problem.

had to watch it on my tv via laptop as it didn't come up on bbc iplayer on my smart blu ray player.
I enjoyed metallica more as I don't know why Limp Bizkit had a keyboard/synth there and felt it ruined the songs and didn't like that they played rap and hip hop music between the songs and I'm sure Fred Durst forgot some of the words like in the second half of the second verse of my generation he sang the second half from the first verse again and I think during take a look around as well.
but apart from that it was good.
I didn't see it, but isn't that DJ Lethal? He was with them for ages as far as I know

He was fired in 2012. It wasn't him I had no problem with his parts on the songs. I don't know who it was, their wikipedia page doesn't say who he is but on their official website there is a pic with a extra guy on the left. I just thought the keyboard/synth during the old songs ruined them, kind of like when Marc Rizzo (even though I love him) plays guitar during the intro of back to the primitive when Soulfly play it live.

A No. 1 album for Iron Maiden this week with over 60,000 copies sold. A little bit of perspective:

- 15,000 more copies than Final Frontier sold
- The biggest opening since Muse's Drones 13 weeks ago
- Achieved only 13% of its sales digitally
- Over 4,000 copies sold on vinyl - the 10th highest tally this century!

UP THE IRONS!

Sold almost twice as many as the album at #2!! An honourable mention to Five Finger Death Punch at #6 as well!!

I also heard a rumour and it was just that, a rumour, that the last 1D album release was brought forward once they realised it would be released the same day as the new maiden album. That would be funny if it were true!

Haved listened to the Book of Souls album a few times now and it's slowly growing on me. Especially love Speed of light which underwhelmed me at first - also Empire of the Clouds is a joy.

Saw them at High Voltage a few years ago, longest 2 hours of my life!!

Not my cup of tea, but "each to their own" as they say. Iit would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing.

I always said that if Slipknot ever played in Leeds that I'd be there with bells on. In typical fashion, it's far more expensive than I imagined and I can't justify going to just want to hear songs from a couple of albums. Also, they don't have Joey anymore.

I find Slipknot massively overrated - they have a few great tracks but by and large I would take Stone Sour over them any day.

It is quite incredible how Slipknot have grown so popular though with a style that is at times about as close to death-metal as a mainstream metal band has ever been.

I agree, I think Stone Sour are much better than Slipknot.

However I have never seen Slipknot so as Cardiff is only 50 or so miles away I'm going to see them. I'm sure it will be the first and last time but it is that box ticked.

This is just a rumour for now (to be confirmed this week) but Guns N Roses are heavily rumoured to be doing summer festivals in Europe, with a supposed stop at Download Festival in Derby, The reason this is a big deal though is because it would be the Appetite for Destruction line up, and the first time Slash and Axl have been on stage together since 1994.

Similarly, Download 2016 is also supposedly playing host to Richie Blackmore who is doing a few one-off dates next summer playing a "Best of" set of Deep Purple and Rainbow songs.

So basically if both of those turn out to be true Donington Park is gonna be packed come June time.

Would be a shame if the gnr rumours are true, saw a few live clips of axl and his voice is just not the same anymore, lets not tarnish the memories we have

The first headliner is being announced tonight @ 7:00 pm and, as you say, the strong rumour is G 'N' R.

Well the announcement of Maiden was a bit of an anti-climax

They're announcing the 2nd headliner (Sabbath) tomorrow, and the 3rd headliner on Wednesday. Now the 3rd headliner could literally be any one of GNR, ACDC, Rammstein, SOAD, Biffy Clyro or Bring Me The Horizon. Most rumours seem to point towards GNR, however an ACDC fan sit with links to the band claimed they were headlining the Friday of Download.... but so did a Rammstein fan page with similarly strong links to their band.

Either way, the headliners for 2016 are looking like they're gonna be any of:
AC/DC, Sabbath, Maiden
Rammstein, Sabbath, Maiden
Guns 'N' Roses, Sabbath, Maiden
and all 3 of those scenarios could lead to a sell-out year for Download.

Personally speaking, as someone born in 1994, the year Slash left Guns N Roses, I want to see the Appetite line-up live regardless, I know Axl can be very hit or miss but watching Motley Crue live this year (Vince Neil can't sing for shit anymore) made me realise I would still enjoy it even if Axl was less-than-perfect. That being said, going back to "rumours" for the time being, Axl has been said to have been getting into shape so that for this supposed reunion tour he would be going out in style,

Which is what makes it all so depressing.

Download Festival boss Andy Copping has said that such headliners will be the death of music festivals because fans won't go unless one or more of those bands are headlining but in five years time they will all be gone, so that will be it because there aren't the new headline bands coming through..
