I brought an Avenged Sevenfold album a few years ago 'Nightmare' purely based on the fact Mike Portnoy was on drumming duty - it is probably the worst thing he's ever been apart of

Jumping in here without reading the rest of the thread.

As someone who was a big Metalhead back in the day (my youth) it seems that the only bands I still listen to on the Metal spectrum are Maiden, At The Gates and King Diamond.

Musically I've moved way on from my old metal days but I still love those three bands like a milkshake.

Two years ago I went to see At The Gates in Cardiff with a transvestite, and just before that I woke up after a huge night's drinking to find that I'd booked a ticket to see Iron Maiden in London later that day. I'd booked a bus but nowhere to kip ("Hello person I went to school with and who now lives in London, can I please sleep on your floor?)

Anyway, in slightly less that three weeks time I'm going to complete the trilogy and will be seeing King Diamond play the Abigail album at The Forum. Anyone else going?

Black Sabbath have announced their final UK dates for Jan/Feb next year, tickets go on sale on Friday.

Based on their Download performance, it is time for them to finish, sadly. Geezer and Tony were superb but for me Ozzy is a pale shadow of who he was. He was off-key several times and didn't sing anything away from the mike stand, I assume because he had some form of prompt for the lyrics.

Aside from Sabbath it was wet, very wet!! I have read reports it could actually be the wettest ever. Babymetal's set was delayed by 20 minutes because there was a torrential downpour just as they were about to walk on stage. However when they did eventually get to play they delivered a storming (geddit?) set and the crowd reaction suggests they will play much higher up the bill the next time they play, as I have no doubt they will be asked back.

Maiden were, well Maiden. They played six songs from The Book Of Souls and even played Children of the Damned for the first time since the '80s! They also announced they will be doing a UK arena tour, although I've not seen any dates yet.

Rammstein were as awesome as always. It was also nice to see them change the set list from their last couple of tours and drop the likes of Amerika and Benzin and add the likes of Zerstören and Seemann. As part of their encore they did an acoustic version of Ohne Dich which surprised everyone I think.

I am biased, I will always put that caveat in as I'm a member of their fan club, but Nightwish were simply brilliant. There was a lot of people on the Download forum questioning their spot as second on the main stage behind Maiden but listening to comments after their set a lot of people were very surprised, and impressed, with just how good they were. I think they stepped up as future headliners.

Got tickets for Sabbath this morning in the O2 pre-sale for their final ever gig so that should be good, I've said myself over on the Download Forums I thought Skindred should have headlined because they got the crowd more into it than Sabbath did BUT Sabbath's final gig is obviously going to be a historic event so it's just too hard to refuse that.

Won't go too much in detail about the other bands because I think Ive beaten my thoughts on them to death over on the DL Forums (I'm "TheTrooper" over there btw) but yeah Maiden were great if a little long, Babymetal were great if crazy short, Halestorm and Nightwish both absolutely tore Download a new one, Rival Sons were great if a bit too heavy on brand new songs and Rammstein *could* have been act of the weekend if the sound hadn't ruined the atmosphere, though "Ohne Dich" and "Engel" were the perfect end to Friday.

Still going to take a lot to get me back there after all the mud and general chaos of festival organisation - still feeling overly exhausted 3 days later

I use the same ID as on here, boringly predictable!

I know what you mean about going back for three days though. We've always gone for a day in the past and had no problems but they had a lot of issues last weekend, issues they didn't address at all and many people missed Sunday completely because they couldn't get parked.

As a confirmed Babymetal and Nightwish fan I'm really glad they seemed to be appreciated for the great acts they are. I can definitely see Nightwish getting one of the headline slots - maybe in 2 years time. I've got a couple of concert DVD's and they do put on a great show.

Live in Wacken 2013 is superb and highly recommended. Nightwish also recorded last December's Wembley Arena show which will be released as a DVD.

Historic or not i would of only got tickets if Ronnie James Dio was heading it up (sadly no longer with us) Ozzy is finished.

Black Sabbath is split into two camps Dio done Ozzy numbers have yet to hear Ozzy cover Neon Knights.

A7X headlined Download a few years ago. At the same time Opeth were headlining in the tent.

After their second song, so a good 30 minutes in to their set, Mikael Åkerfeldt stopped and listened for a minute and then told the story of when A7x played in Oslo with Mike Portnoy drumming. As Portnoy and Mikael Åkerfeldt are long time friends Mike invited Mikael along to catch up and watch A7x.

Mikael said he stood at the side of the stage and watched them and, after a pause of several seconds and with his typically very dry sense of humour, he added, "...I did not like them..."

Alter Bridge confirm UK arena tour with support from Volbeat this November.

They are playing 7 dates including the 02. I might just have to grab tickets on Friday when they go on sale.

Another Alter Bridge tour which doesn't visit Ireland at all.

Very strange - they're easily big enough to play here and most of their contemporaries have already done so.

Thats really surprising as they are touring quite a bit of Europe so you would have expected a show in Ireland

I love Blues Pills, Elin Larsson has a remarkable voice and they are superb live.

I saw them a couple of times last year and I'm going to see them again in Bristol in November.

I'm really enjoying the new album by The Amorettes at the moment, White Hot Heat, they remind me very much of early Rock Goddess so not the most ground-breaking band on the planet but enjoyable enough.

I had hoped to see them @ Download but a combination of band clashes and the weather beat me, unfortunately I can't make the Bristol gig on their September tour but fortunately they are at Planet Rockstock in December, so third time lucky!!!

The Amorettes "Let The Neighbours Call The Cops" DOWNLOAD 2016

As someone who was fortunate enough to play guest guitar spots on this, the album is absolutely immense

Have a lifetime pass to their shows now, so will be bringing myself along to the co-headline tour they have with Love Zombies and might have to treat myself to Planet Rockstock too.
