You were at the Freddie Tribute Concert?, What did it sound like when George hit that note on 'Somebody To Love', slightly off topic I know
To be honest I've never got in to the whole Queen "mythology". You see endless threads about how wonderful Freddie Mercury was and how he was the greatest showman ever, etc, but all of that stems from one set @ Wembley for Live Aid, a set the band themselves didn't really want to do as they were on the verge of splitting up due to declining interest in their music. However in saying that the Tribute Show was a great night, with a Who's Who of Rock Royalty playing. With bands like Metallica and Guns 'n' Roses doing the support it was always going to be a special event. The one strong memory I really have, though, is just how good the likes of George Michael and Lisa Standsfield were. Neither of them are the sort of acts I would ever go and see, or buy their music, but with something like that you can see just how talented they really are, without the BS that usually surrounds them. |

Do you mean like a death growl or just low & throaty? I'm afraid that Opeth track bored me, so I didn't finish listening to it & can't remember what it sounds like

![]() ![]() The album The Drapery Falls is taken from, Blackwater Park, is considered a masterpiece of the genre. I saw Opeth do the album in its entirety at The Royal Albert Hall a couple of years ago, an amazing night. But each to their own, of course. |

I think this is pushing it a bit, Queen were a huge live act before Live Aid.
I'll give Queen credit for having the balls to release Hot Space, even if they did get roasted for it |

Varg Vikernes isn't a Nazi in the sense that he doesn't agree with their economic policies, amongst other things, but he is a white nationalist. I find him somewhat fascinating as an individual.
I've never really listened to Burzum because of his beliefs, but I did like the one song I heard and musically it sounds like the sort of thing I like. I tend not to be too concerned with lyrics anyway so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. |

His beliefs aren't reflected in his music though, his lyrics aren't racist at all. You'd seriously struggle to get a good impression of his personal views from his songs.

That's a relief. I'll check them out sometime.
Euronymous would have killed him had he not acted beforehand. Of course, I don't think murder is a good thing to do but I can sort of understand his reasoning. ![]() So, back on topic. I'm jumping about like a loon here, because I just found live footage of my favourite Swedish Industrialists, Raubtier with legend Snowy Shaw guesting on drums & vocals & it's awesome ![]() Raubtier feat Snowy Shaw - Världsherravälde |

Assuming he would actually have carried it out. Well, it appears I'm on my own over this one. We'll just have to agree to disagree about Varg then. I guess I probably shouldn't be forcing my politics on other people anyway. This thread's supposed to be all about the music, isn't it?
![]() The whole Norwegian black metal story is part of metal culture so I'd say it is relevant. Quote:

You didn't come across as forcing in the least. There are many things I dislike about Varg and disagree with him on, such as the church burnings.

Another favourite is En Hjältes Väg Imo Pär Hulkoff has an incredible voice. I guess I have a particular liking for low, brutal but clean vocals. Which means I'm in pig heaven over this next link, which is a live version of En Hjältes Väg, with Joakim guesting. I'm just gutted they didn't do a verse together. Can't have everything I suppose *sigh*Raubtier Feat Joakim Brodén (Sabaton) - En Hjältes Väg They can speed it up a bit too VittringI think I'm a bit evangelical about this band

I'm not enjoying them as much in studio form, unfortunately. It just isn't working for me.

What's missing?
I have to say, I think I do prefer them live (just like Sabaton) - particularly the one with Snowy - but love their studio recording too, just not as much. |

I think this is pushing it a bit, Queen were a huge live act before Live Aid.
Both Brian May and Roger Deacon have said in interview that prior to Live Aid the band were disintegrating and they didn't want to do it, the video for I Want To Break Free pretty much destroyed their American career over night, Freddie was more interested in the nightlife of Berlin and drink and drugs were taking their toll. It was only Bob Geldof's bloody-minded persistence and friendship with Freddie that convinced them to do it. The band themselves have credited Live Aid for resurrecting their career and they certainly wouldn't have had anywhere near the success they enjoyed in the years between Live Aid and Freddie's death if they hadn't have done it. |
