Newcastle. One of the most skipped places for bands in the UK.

It's a bloody joke. My mate has to come up here for most gigs.

It is a bloody joke! We get the big names ok but the promoters of the smaller (in Britain) European acts seem scared of sending them here.

The thing is, on mainland Europe, fans find it relatively easy to just hop on a train & go to another country for a gig. I'm not sure the bands themselves realise just how difficult & expensive it is to travel around the UK.

Since I mentioned Lordi a week or so ago I've been looking into their stuff a bit more.

Here are some of my faves that I found:

It Snows In Hell

Blood Red Sandman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkw4jhDE1eQ

Would You Love A Monsterman?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r_zVWRCLQ0
(the chorus to this is so catchy I keep singing it to myself while I'm out)

Plus this is a track I've always liked since it was released as the b-side to their Eurovision single....

I'm not sure they'd even care to be honest. A lot of the bands i'd like to see consider a UK tour as the following...

Reading Festival
Leeds Festival

Usually there'd be a London side date (for me to seethe about, lol) but even those are being skipped by some now. It seems the festivals are making actual tours less worthwhile for (some of) the bands.

Anyhoo, i won't keep grumbling, as i could go on all day about the current lack of gigs. Here is a band that know how to tour. A more mellow offering than usual, the title track from their brand new album.

Don't some of the festivals tie bands into exclusive appearances?

Hmmm......I was actually a bit "meh" for most of that but then the instrumental from 2.20 - 2.50 was awesome.

Don't complain, the most skipped place is Belfast. Most bands will either stay only on mainland UK or go to Dublin thinking "Well, we're still playing in Ireland", ignoring the fact that Northern Ireland is legally speaking an entirely different country, with different currency and transporation networks.

Wtf pretty much sums it up! I'm all for metal subgenres, but that's taking things way too far...how did they even come up with things like 'rock metal' and 'red dirt metal'?!?!? .

I think they left out "sheet metal" and "precious metal"

Same here @ Bristol, seventh largest city in the UK but we have to go to Cardiff, if we're lucky, Birmingham, or London, for most bands.

..Band is sounding a lot different to how I remember them, I hate super technical metal it sounds like a complete mish mash of noise, glad to see this band focus on making actual songs now rather than trying to play the oddest time signatures imaginable.

Hmmmm......I see what you mean. I managed to last until the end but it was bloody hard going. I was bored rigid. How does that even qualify as metal?

At least with Prog there's a 'journey' that takes the listener from start to finish. (even if the listener finds it dull). That just sounded like different bits tacked together for no obvious reason.

Does anyone remember many, many pages ago, we were talking about Anvil? (or was that on another thread?)

I just discovered they're still going & have just released a new album

And they're doing European festivals.

I saw them @ Reading in 1983 and they were brilliant.

I would highly recommend their documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil
