They were on at Bloodstock last year - can't say I enjoyed them particularly, but they seemed to go down pretty well.

Oh you know

Really though, i've seen guys like Vai and Satch perform stuff which I find melodic, has actual flow and structure, some kind of resonance, basically not just a wankfest 'DAT TWO HAND SOLO', but i'm not on that side of the fence. If your into speed then I can respect that

Well yes, I do like speed & I did enjoy it for what it was but I wouldn't want to listen to too much of that in one go.

Anyway....Metal Hammer has reviewed the new Sabbath album

Oh. My. God. I have no words..............Iggy Pop & The Stooges - 1970 (Goose Lake 1970)

Eight years later
Iggy Pop - The Passenger (Live Manchester Apollo 1977)

Still on the Iggy bit of youtube.

I'd forgotten he went through a phase of having metal musicians behind him. From 1991

Iggy Pop - Down on the Street An old Stooges tune. And 2.24...would I? In a heartbeat.

Another old Stooges tune from the same gig Loose

and another I Wanna Be Your Dog
"A dog that never dies" F*ck yes!
Metal punk

(oh and, there's a very good reason why that last one is age restricted)

Oooo...bonus track No Fun
And yes, I do realise I'm probably talking to myself

Good one.

I am off to MUSE in a bit, starting to panic over Megadeth tickets, gig is on Wednesday and still haven't got them, ticketmaster said leave it til 48hours before (seemed a lot easier when you could print your own paper tickets)

Batio is insane. That technique he used in 'No Boundaries' is just incredible to watch. Such a conundrum though - I love watching him play but hate listening to him. He has no grasp of melody, timing, dynamics, basically musicality. He can play fast and technically - better than anyone else on the planet - but that means nothing if he can't write a good tune.

Anyway, Batio is ambidextrous, so he has a biological advantage over normal players

Not a fan at all. It's just playing random notes as fast as possible. There is no good writing there at all.

I actually saw a video of his and it started with him saying: "Hey, I'm Michael Batio, and I bet you can't play this fast"

It's just all so self indulgent and embarrassing. I mean, I can play fast, anyone can, but it'd sound like shit, and what he was playing sounded like shit, sooo

Is it just me, or has Sonisphere - France completely lost the plot? They've got Limpbizkit headlining over Slayer. Wtf???

Yep, I quite like Focus and Argent and love Jethro Tull - not an ELP fan though. King Crimson, Rush, Van der Graaf Generator and Camel are among my favourite prog bands.

Should have added King Crimson, the madness that is Larks Tongues in Aspic is so of its time. Yet for all Jamie Muir looks like he has gone insane behind the drums, the music keeps going in a freeform style.
