Prog is quite a wide loosely-defined genre now, so I certainly wouldn't be put off by preconceptions of what modern prog should sound like.

There seem to be a lot more women involved these days as well, which perhaps keeps it a bit more grounded. Lol.

Some current female-fronted and male/female-fronted bands...

Mostly Autumn
Touchstone
The Reasoning
Panic Room

Many of the member of those bands are friends of mine.

Today it is generally called Progressive Music rather than Prog Rock, so it does encompass many genres and musical styles, there is a lot of cross-over in to the likes of Symphonic Metal as well.

Some other bands worth considering, if people want to look in to the more Progressive areas are....

Dream Theater - Probably the most obvious example.
Sylvan
Riverside
Paatos
Markize
Steven Wilson's various bands and projects, Porcupine Tree, No Man, Blackfield, as well as his solo stuff.
The Tangent
Pinapple Thief
TesseracT
Anathema
Big Big Train
Amplifier
Devin Townsend Project

I could go on!

Is it wrong that I actually prefer that to the original?

well the megadeth gig!

Started off from pub across the road watching the queue just grow and grow, doors supposed to open at 8 but me and the boy decided a red-topped guy was our focal point in the queue and he never moved til 8.15

Megadeth on stage 9.15 prompt, after each of first Cpl of songs they went off, which is unusual, after the third or fourth song they went off for ages, stood thinking shall I go for a smoke, pee etc, decided after 10 mins to go, after them things I walked back too hear eleffson explaining there was a problem with lights on stage and they would be back when it was rectified.

Bloody hell I thought, will I get money back? went to bar, heard mustaine having a wobbler about some as he put it 'c**t', read of show was going well til a bit later some guy in the crowd annoyed him and he asked security to take him out.

First time ever seen them and he lived up to his reputation, but they were bloody great though

not good at all, I am a strong advocate for LGBT acceptance and some of his comments on these videos leave a lot to be desired. I missed all of this, but as you can hear by the crowd his views were lapped up.

I feel grubby now as I am a strong supporter of LGBT rights

I'm sure I told you a while back that he was homophobic. As well as being a right wing christian, conspiracy theorist & gun nut. He's one of those idiots who believes Obama's a muslim who faked his birth certificate.

All of that's beside the point though. If they had a problem with the light show, then play without it ffs! Especially if you're already running late. And isn't he smart enough to deal with hecklers by using humour?

Hero worship, I guess.

Unfortunately, metal still has a long way to go when it comes to homophobia & misogyny. Both of which seem to be almost de rigeur *

According to some of those comments, his homophobia didn't prevent Megadeth from supporting Judas Priest. I guess we can add 'hypocrite' to the list?

* I think that's one of the reasons I prefer European metal. you don't seem to see as much of that as you do with American & British 'cock' rockers. Unfortunately, Thrash & Death do seem to be the worst offenders.

You'd think so but it doesn't seem to have done Rob Halford any harm.

I'm pretty sure there's a nordic black metaller who's out. I can't remember who it is or which band though.

ETA - Just remembered it's Gaahl, former vocalist with Gorgoroth, from Norway.

I won't pretend that there's an absence of homophobia and misogyny in metal (or in other music genres for that matter) but the comments on that Blabbermouth article just seem to be stupid, immature internet trolling - much like the hordes of absurd comments you get under almost every YouTube video. Obviously it's sad that it happens, but I don't think it's representative of the metal community as a whole. As for the crowd cheering Dave Mustaine's comments, that's definitely disappointing, but from my own experience of concerts, if anyone supposedly causing trouble is being kicked out, the crowd always cheer and are supportive of the band - I'm not sure everyone would necessarily be supporting his choice of language specifically. I would certainly hope not, in any case!

He wasn't really causing trouble though, was he? Just voicing his displeasure at the unreasonable delays. There was no need to have him removed & certainly no excuse for Mustaine to act like a complete dick.

Of course not, I'm not excusing Mustaine's actions at all, that's why I said 'supposedly'. The point I was making is that the crowd cheering wasn't necessarily down to Mustaine's inappropriate choice of words - more that when a band kicks someone out for causing trouble or whatever, in my experience, the crowd is nearly always supportive of the band, not the individual. It's often unclear to the majority of the audience at a concert exactly what is going on with one individual member of the audience, so the inclination is usually to side with the band, at least initially. With hindsight, it seems clear to most people that in this case, it was actually Mustaine in the wrong.

Yeah, sorry about that. I obviously didn't read it properly.

You're right; the audience will usually side with the band. Tbh, I'm surprised they weren't getting stick from more people, given all the delays & general fannying around.

A shame to see Queens of the Stone Age not getting the Album Number 1 slot this week, would have been kick ass to see a rock album at the top of the charts, instead we get some electro album there instead beating it by a couple of thousand copies.

It doesn't really matter does it? I couldn't care less about who's top of the charts..

Like Clockwork is a great album though.

Anyone on here like Argent? I think their version of God Gave Rock and Roll To You with the jokey reference to Cliff Richard is excellent.
