Sad addition to the thread is the passing of Clive Burr today, good drummer and will be sadly missed

I'm sure I've already posted this link here but I felt we should do our bit on this thread to acknowledge the new Pope & I couldn't think of a better way to do it

Power Metal is massive in Europe and so is Symphonic Metal and there is a lot of crossover between the two, hence the examples I gave earlier!

I don't mind Power Metal, the likes of Sabaton, Helloween, etc, but I lean more towards the Symphonic end of the spectrum.

I like some Symphonic too but generally prefer male vocals.

What are they like live?

We've all posted tracks from our favourite bands, for each other's enjoyment but I'd like to see what they're like in a live setting. I'm going to post a few of my favourite performances from Sabaton (with reasons as to why I like them) & I'd love to see some live performances from other bands.

I'm mostly posting stuff from people's mobile phones, as I think they give an honest account. The sound quality may not always be the best but it's not always about that, is it?

So, if I show you mine, will you show me yours?

Set opener Ghost Division Melbourne Jan 2013. Supporting Nightwish - first time in Australia - majority of the crowd had no idea who they were. The sound's not great but this is about winning over a largely indifferent crowd.

The Art Of War - London Nov 2012 - I love the pyros

The Hammer Has Fallen - Paris 2012 - I love the song & it's nice to see Joakim on keys.

40:1 - Ljubljana, a couple of days ago. just love the energy

And finally - getting an afternoon festival crowd bouncing - Primo Victoria & Metal Crue - Graspop 2012 JUMP!

So, As you may have gathered, a good live performance for me isn't about perfect vocals, a huge stage show with props, costumes or a front man posing about, pretending to be the prince of darkness. It's about heart & energy & honesty & sheer goddan FUN. Maybe that's the old punk in me rearing her head but whatever.

Now let's see what gets you going

ETA Oh, a bonus track. from last night in Zagreb, someone just uploaded Swedish Pagans

I saw the American band Halestorm in the Student's union in Cardiff on Sunday. After winning a Grammy the other week they are starting to play arena shows in the US now and I was talking to the girl on the merchandise stand, who was saying how much they were enjoying playing the small venues in the UK because it reminded them not only of how they started in America, but also how much fun small gigs were to play, where the audience were pressed up to the stage, etc.

I did mention that as their last two UK tours have both sold out they might not be playing such small venues for much longer in the UK either.

I keep meaning to check them out. Sounds like they're at a similar career stage to Sabaton (apart from the Grammy lol). Sabaton do tiny bar gigs in the USA but thousands in Europe. Here they are last month in Tampa, Florida http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4djRQomL78

Are you going to post any live stuff then? Is it time for Halestorm to move up to maybe 1,000/2,000 capacity venues?

Not usually my sort of thing but I really enjoyed that. I read it as Swedish Penguins tho, which would have been a way better title. So points off for that.

Am currently loving this live version of Ashes To Ashes by Faith No More. The fact Mike looks delicious is merely a bonus. :P

And this really grainy footage of NIN playing in a tiny venue is quite possibly my fave live footage ever. I would have loved to have been there, so much energy- from band and audience. Lucky buggers!

Nice one Cakey, i've been planning on posting Ashes to Ashes myself, but couldn't settle on a specific live version.

Also, when i read your name, i'm always reminded of this song, but that says more about ME than it does anything else.
