I am a fan of System of a Down, Korn, Limp Bikit, Linkin Park and I love Ozzy Osbourne's solo material. Prince of Darkness is an impeccable collection of his work and his albums after tht have had some great songs. It would be awesome if he did a Prince Of Darkness Part 2 in 15/20 years.”

Slipknot are a band that is generally put into the same category as those.
Can't really help when it comes to newer bands because *clutches walking stick* I'm finding it harder to understand kids tastes these days.

I remember seeing the Pretty Reckless before Evanescence a few years back, Taylor surely loves to tease the men

It's released today, however as I ordered mine direct from the band's website it arrived on Saturday

I've only had the chance to listen to it once but on first hearing I like it.

I'll need to listen a few more times to get "in to" it, as I do anything new.

I bought their last album on the strength of hearing 'Faster' on Planet Rock.

I thought is was OK, but Nightwish do it much better, for me.

Pain.

Did I see them supporting Paradise Lost? That name sounds familiar.

I don't know about Paradise Lost but they were the support act for Nightwish in 2012 & did a short headlining tour here a year ago.

Peter Tagtgren is probably better known for Hypocrisy though. Pain is his own side project - Industrial, rather than Death.

Ahhh, it could well have been Nightwish I saw them support then.

I think the Black Symphony DVD give a much better impression of what Within Temptation are really about. The Unforgiving is quite a commercial departure from their earlier stuff.

Nightwish and Within Temptation are two very different bands to me.

Paradise Lost have been around for a long time. They did a 25th Anniversary Tour last year to commemorate the release of their first album.

Not really my thing, but the two support bands were Lacuna Coil and Katatonia, so that was a good enough reason for me to go!

I didn't mean that I'd never heard of Paradise Lost, just that I didn't know if Pain had supported them or not.

According to Wikipedia

"Pain supported Nightwish on the second half of their Dark Passion Play World Tour, along with Finnish pop rock band Indica, beginning with the first show in London, UK on 11 March 2009."

That'll be the one I saw then. I have seen Nightwish twice in London.

Don't know if anyone here is interested, but for anyone who saw the Grammy's the other week, there was a pretty good collab between NIN, Queens of the Stone Age, Lindsey Buckingham and Dave Grohl where they did a joint performance of "A Copy of A..." and "My God is the Sun", but sadly during the live performance, they cut it short to show commercials and sponsers, which pissed off Reznor. Anyway, the full performance was leaked online from the rehearsal sessions (which sound much better):

It's just s shame they've had to take their sound so mainstream in order to do it. They can't really be called Metal anymore. It was the same with A7X.

I don't know if Within Temptation could ever have been called "metal", though, even on their earlier albums.

Certainly when compared to say Nightwish they have always had a softer, more commercial sound. For me that is why Black Symphony works so well.

I agree completely with A7X, though.

I think it'd be hard to argue against Within Temptation being metal on their first album at least:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGhF_gKYjjQ

You're right though that since then they've been more commercial, but even then I think you could certainly make a case for 'The Silent Force' and 'The Heart of Everything' being metal, albeit the softer end of the genre.

Some good blues driven stoner from Greece, a country that seems to be producing a fair few stoner bands.

They have a metal element to their music, of course they do, but I think they have always had a strong commercial sound through all of their albums, even Enter.

There's an interview with Sharon in this month's Prog where she cites Paradise Lost and Dead Can Dance as early influences as well as collectively absorbing the likes of Rush and Anathema in to their music. To me the metal influence isn't right to the forefront of their music in the same way as, say, Nightwish.

They're touring it in the US....after a falling out and childish court battle with the singer.

Rock stars, you gotta love 'em
