A future without exclusives ?.
not sure is this question has been asked before but I got to thinking about exclusives. Do you agree with them ?. Do developers make that much £ or $ that they can afford to do this, to pick and choose which console a game gets released on ?.
Can you imagine the likes of Uncharted or God of War on xbox/nextbox or Gears or Forza on the Ps3 ?. Yeah I understand that these exclusives help sell consoles but if these games were released on all consoles, wouldn't the developers make far more money ?. Just a thought. |

There needs to be SOME form of exclusives, if anything to try and push the hardware as far as it can, a lot of the stuff Naughty Dog do with the PS3 couldn't be done on the Xbox 360 likewise with studios like EPIC and Bungie with what they did on the Xbox 360 would be extremely tough to try and do on the PS3.
If you don't have platform exclusives, then you have a bland sea of cross developed multi platform titles that don't push ANY of the formats to their extremes. |

Agree with the above, I love exclusives it would be dull without them. I love the way they push the host hardware in ways that multiplatform software can't (though that tide is beginning to turn at this point in the current gen). I love the way each system has rival IP's, it keeps devs on their toes and it makes the games better at the end of the day.

Third party exclusives are pretty rare now as the payoff from the hardware companies no longer compensate for the loss of sales that multiplatform brings.
Most of the games you mention are first party though - owned by the hardware companies - and are there to sell hardware. |

I don't think exclusives should be a thing, especially as I can't afford a PS3 and want to play some of their games.
Companies would make more money if they didn't have exclusives, unless they get paid a bucketload by the console maker. |

Of course they do, they get paid to use their hardware the best they can, they get paid to be the best for that platform, and being in that specific group means you'd also get help and advice from other first and second party teams.
Look at games like Journey, thatgamecompany want to move onto multiplatform but have admitted how Sony were pretty much the only people paying them in recent years despite journey going off track and getting delayed internally quite a bit, instead of making demands, Sony carried on paying them and let them release the game when they felt it was done. |

if you didnt you would have microsoft studios games on PS3 and that would be wrong. I like the option of having them all on the PC though. Most people have a PC and if I could get Heavy Rain on PC I would go buy it tomorrow. I am sort of against exclusives, but I do know people with both consoles just so they can play exclusives so it does work !

Exclusives not only sell consoles but i think they improve gaming to certain degree, both Sony, Microsoft and to a much lesser extend nintendo need to keep making new IPs and revolutionary sequels so that people would think what they really want
Do you get Xbox for Halo PS3 for Uncharted Nintendo for Mario and Zelda Without these exclusives a much larger part of gaming would be the same generic games we've playing for the past few years where nothing new happens |

I bought the 360 because I previously had an xbox, so exclusives didn't come into it for me.

I bought an xbox because I read in Moneysavingexpert.com they were selling preowned ones for £20 at Game and thought I would buy one...Loved it, bought a 360. now spent 1k or even more on it. If it was a PS2 at £20 Id probably have a PS3....
....I hope Bill Gates is reading this. |

If you have to have exclusives, then make the exclusive period much shorter.... as they only piss customers off.

A lot of exclusives are funded by the console manufacturer, or the dev is tied in via a legally binding contract. It makes sense from the p.o.v of Microsoft say to have Gears, Forza & Halo as exclusives because they help ship consoles, especially Halo.
It would be nice to have more multi-plats, but at the end of the day would Uncharted, Halo 4, God of War look as good if they were multi-plats, or would they have the same level of dedication and care put into them? I doubt it. Plus one platform would always come off worse (just look at all the sh!t multi-plats on PS3 with their sub 30 fps framerates). |

The PS4 already has a couple of exclusives so I think for now. The future will have be full of exclusives. If Xbox continue the trend of we are a media console not a games console, like they seem to be doing then I do think it will be third parties and a halo or two now and again on their next console. All of Xbox's Games studios are being very quiet at the moment though and most of them are working on "secret projects". So maybe will we see some exclusives from xbox. Nintendo is a no brainier.

I had a PS2 and an Xbox but the exclusives on the PS3 and Xbox 360 just weren't enough to convince me to buy either.
Ended up getting a graphics card for my PC and a Wii. |
