My all time favourite track from my year of birth is Fleetwood Mac,s Everywhere what a cracking tune especially the backing track

So great to see that horse off the great 3 advert giving it a new lease of chart life this week 25 years on

I was born in 88 and wouldn't know what songs were released that year. I dislike both the above though.

I was born in '97, and mine would be Don't Speak by No Doubt, Torn by Natalie Imbruglia or Don't Let Go by En Vogue.

I thought that came out in '83?

1978

Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights
John Travolta & Olivia Newton John - You're The One That I Want (1978 was a very Grease heavy year, a Grease song was also number one the day I was born)
The Bee Gees - Night Fever
The Bee Gees - Stayin Alive
The Jacksons - Blame It On The Boogie

Living on a prayer - ANTHEM

Take my breath away -

Its a kind of magic

Touch me - sam fox

That is literally it (unless your a madonna fan)

Every loser wins was number 1 on my birthday - what the shit is that

Nick Berry played a character called Wicksy (son of Pat) in EastEnders at the time and he sang this song on the piano in The Vic in one of the eps. I think it was written by the same person who wrote the EastEnders theme tune.

No doubt another best seller of that year was Housemartins' Caravan Of Love, which makes me

and also Going Gets Tough, which I've never cared for.

Bleeuch indeed, but on the other hand the year also brought us Angie's rendition of Anyone Can Fall In Love, which is a guilty pleasure of mine

Never heard it before but caravan of love is getting added to my list of good songs

Eastenders must of been huge in 1986 to get that nick berry crap a number 1

Eastenders was indeed huge but the song's chart success was given a 'people power' boost by him being the 'heart-throb' of the show and thus guaranteeing inflated sales from the teenage girl market. Anita Dobson's earlier song is widely derided as being equally as rubbish and so to deduce a differentiation between the success of the two leads obviously to that conclusion - as we can see from Bieber, Wan Erection et al, nothing changes.

1995

Always - Bon Jovi
Roll With It - Oasis
Don't Look Back in Anger - Oasis
Common People - Pulp
The Universal - Blur
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead

They're my favourite 'popular' songs from '95; there are many more faves of mine that didn't chart and would take me ages to list.

But the other 'popular' songs from '95 were utter wank.

Rebel Rebel - David Bowie
The Wombling Song - The Wombles
Killer Queen - Queen

Lots of Mud, Slade, Showaddywaddy, Bay City Rollers, Alvin Stardust, David Essex as well.

Best not to mention Gary Glitter.......or Freddie Starr.

It was quite a poor year really
