Has anyone here ever bought a jar of Homepride (I think) pasta bake ?

Tonight we are having cold pork for tea and I thought of doing some pasta with it. But I have never tried these and wondered if its worth bothering.

If they are OK, which one is the best ?

I had one once. It was frankly disgusting.

I hate to say this as I usually can't stand all the "make-your-own" responses whenever someone dares to mention a ready-made product but I agree with the above poster, they are rank.

Oh - forget that idea then !!! I sometimes use the pasta packets, where you tip the contents into a saucepan and add milk / water and butter. They are nice, but there really isn't enough in them. I am starving and on a tight schedule this evening.

Lloyd Grossman sauces are above average.

Or a can of Condensed Soup like Campbells' cream of mushroom or cream of chicken, these could be used as a Pasta sauce, real easy.

These are definitely preferable to the Homepride Sauce. I use them fairly often as a cheat. The chicken and white wine one is particularly nice but not best choice with roast pork.

I'd just have spaghetti tossed in garlic oil with that probably.

I think i will try and pop into a local store on the way home and look for the Lloyd Grossman sauces. I don't normally cheat, but i have to go to get home, prepare something (I thought the pasta bake could be prepped and slammed in the oven) go to the vets, come home and then serve hubby before he dashed to work. Phew. Maybe I should have got a takeaway, but i don't like wastage and wanted to use up the pork.

I don't think they're too bad. I chop up mushrooms and peppers and add them at the start and it really is such an easy meal. I don't know what the flavours are called but the best one is cream of tomato colour but not the one with bacon. More liquid is required than suggested but the veggies help.

I would have done a few chips and peas with cold roast pork - a bit of brown sauce or pickle on the side and Bob's your uncle !

Same here but on this occasion I would say, if you really wanted a pasta bake, to make a roux.
Butter/fat, flour, milk, herbs/seasoning (cheese if you want). Easy.

i've used one of those condensed soups as a pasta bake sauce and it was delicious, i used it alongside a jar of aldi's carbonara pasta sauce as it was a big dish!! but it was delicious!!

aldi's cheese and tomato pasta bake sauce is lovely too! i quite like the homepride sauces, but i think it's an individual thing!

You have to really try out these things for yourself. It really is a personal thing. Someone above has said Lloyd Grossman sauces are above average and I personally find them rank, I don't often have jar sauces - not out of any feelings of disgust of jars and tins but due to allergies. But the time I had a pasta bake from homepride I wouldn't say it was that bad.

It is all personal preference and if you have a jar or want to find out give them ago - or try Dolmio one they are on par with home pride.

I would love some pasta bake ideas that I could cook up and keep in the fridge for a day or two personally though

You can just use some creme fraiche or cheese sauce and some veg/meat and pasta, topped with cheese or a tin of tomatoes or a pasta sauce and mix some stuff into it. I guess it depends on the flavour you're looking for.

This is a lovely pasta bake. I can't say it's the healthiest pasta dish i've ever made but for a rare treat it's bloody lovely!
