Now that this series is almost over, I think this thread will be interesting.

For me, it's absolutely this one. Stale choreography, too slow starting (ie. splitting them, and then the duel.) This series was FAR too short to include the duel. Also this is the most boring final 3 ever, and it's as blatantly obvious who will win (Beth) as ever. Finally the panel has been atrocious. Karen and Ashley were both AWFUL additions. They should have either stuck with last years panel, or at most swapped Louie for Jason.

Anyway, what do you think?

This has been the worst. It was really going through the motions. There was nothing memorable at all about it.

This one without a doubt.... just awful really...... gave up on it half way through... never did that before.. always watched it to the end.

Series 7.

Series 8. I honestly couldn't care less who wins.

Even though the last two have been pretty bad, I voted for Series 5 as it was the only one I didn't have a favourite for. It was the biggest one-horse-race in the history of the show!

I think it's this series by far.

I didn't watch DOI until Series 4 so can't comment on the first 3, but out of those I have seen its got to be the current series unfortunately. That certainly isn't a reflection on the contestants, but everything else... terrible judging panel, awful twists that spoilt the show and skewed the results, and even the music IMO has been very unimaginative this year.

Agree, I was put off by Pamela Anderson and then most of the so-called celebs are soap stars or reality TV stars so I do not know who they are! Sadly, this year I have not bothered to watch a great deal of Dancing on Ice, I used to be a great fan and never missed a show. I guess a lot of the A lister stars are not willing to give up three months of their time or take the risks involved with Dancing on Ice!! I thought the whole fiasco of Reality TV Personality Pamela was ridiculous. She merrily went off and did another reality show as this is the only kind of work she can get now. Only ITV thought she was a big star!!! HIlarious.

I feel a bit that way about it as well!

Actually, only two of the celebrities were soap stars and one was a reality 'star'. So that's where you're wrong.

Series 1

I wasn't keen on Louie last year (too irritating - I'm glad they got Jason back) but as a series it has to be this year.

The biased scoring and fawning over Matt has put me off

I'd have stayed more interested if Shayne had lasted, and I enjoyed Keith's enthusiasm, but since they went I've been :sleep:

I voted series 8.

The only highlight for me this series has been Torvill and Dean's performances, especially the storybook, animation routine, which was innovative and lovely.

The overall music for this series has been awful. Too many modern dance tracks, and not enough variety or jazz/classical styles of music. ITV seems to want to attract a younger audience. The one time T&D choreographed a Classical piece - which I really enjoyed - Matt was in the Skate Off, so I guess that proves ITV right and me wrong.

My fave series still remains series 1. Fresh, exciting, camp, funny, innocent, great personalities and pro skaters all round, and best of all, T&D back skating on our screens after 8 years being away.

My fave episode is STILL the Las Vegas Special in series 1, where the whole thing was LIVE! The hilarious group routine with celebs and pros, and Gail's hubby from Corrie going out of control at the end of a synchro wheel! I think alot of the spontaneity has gone out of it because alot of the segments are pre-recorded. Fine when it's something special like the T&D animation routine, but not everything but the actual contestant's performances, as it has become now.

Also, I hate this Panel of Judges the most. Ashley just talks utter gibberish! Ice Skating has nothing to do with "hot salsa verde mama" and all her other tripe.
They should bring the show back to core ICE Skating - bring back the required elements each week, and have proper themes, like Swing, or Las Vegas, or Hollywood, where we'd get a wider variety of interesting music suitable to all styles of skating.

And most of all, I never want to see a roll up crucifix lift EVER again! Why not have compulsory hydroblade moves, dance/pair spins, and other far more interesting highlights in each routine rather than 2 forward crossovers holding the pros hand, and straight into a lift, repeat, another lift. Real ice dancing is about Footwork and steps, but ofcourse this show incorporates Pairs moves more than icedance.
The main problem is the contestants are never gonna do T&D's choreography aswell as T&D, so alot of it looks poor and uninteresting. I haven't been really excited by one routine this series so far.

One positive point: I have enjoyed watching 2 of the new Pros - Robin and Jenna - both lovely skaters, Jenna has a beautiful extended spiral position, and hope they are both invited back next year, as I'm sure ITV WILL bring it back.

I'm going with Series 6 as I think that is when things started to go downhill a bit and the show started to get silly.

That was the year of the "eliminations" where 4 went out before even making the shows the introductions of all the stupid twists came in that year (remember the Ice Pick for example) and also the introduction of I guess "famous for no real reason celebs" Elen Rivas prime example as well as others that year and yes alhough I did like him the start of the importing celebs from other countries to take part as well.

Although this year has been poorer than I had hoped I don't think it has been the worst series. It has had a lot of problems that I think need fixing urgently to allow next series to have any chance including sorting out the biased marking from the judges.

I would almost be tempted to say they need a completely new judging panel. Robin is marking on a male bias on the basis of what he used to be able to achieve which is always favour the males and already gives an unfair bias, Jason marks well I'm beginning to think with certain parts of his anatomy rather than his brain which may affect how he seems to vote, Ashley I've said before her votes are for how hot/cute you look and if you make her laugh and Karen I've defended previously but even I find her scoring a tad questionable at times this year.

I've missed the proper theme weeks and the required elements rather than twists and duels etc but I think while its maybe one of the weakest years I don't think its the worst.

Same for me plus that's when I think the rot started to kick in and the choregraphy looked tired.

Hayley deserved her win but really she was made to look much better than she was by the competition. The only interesting contestants for me that year Danniella & Mikey started off promisingly but plateaud after a few weeks.

At least this year has been mostly a 3 horse race until Gareth got ill last week & we now have a 2 horse race.

I think Hayley was lucky in the sense she was the best of a mediocre year and I think was lucky she got some memorable (depending on opinion) choreo. She also had the "personality" that appeals to Jason much like Matt IMO the OTT stage school star and the fact DOI played on her friendship with Dan.

I believe had Hayley been in any of the other years she would have struggled against many of the other girls especially Chloe, Laura, Jorgie, Susanne and Beth this year and I would even include Clare as I think she was robbed her series.

Take out Jai Ho though & were any of her other routines memorable? Not for me

Not sure. You are right that Hayley becomes memorable because she got one really memorable - bought in - routine in a series where there wasn't much competition for her. She can only do what she's given though, and she can only do what Dan can. He just seems to attract particular choregraphy - indeed a lot of Hayley's flying routine was rerun for Beth's. There's no way to know she couldn't do Suzanne or anyone elses routines. She is the same size, and she's the one who went to Laine - the drama school that turns out probably more of the West End's top dancers than anyone. She's probably teh best qualified dancer they have had. When they did have skills tests to give her, she was really good - her spin capability turns up again as the most striking move in Jai Ho.

Clare was better than Kyran arguably - but she was at least up against a journey story with Kyran. Since Hayley there's only been one remotely memorable routine each series at best, the judging has pushed a male winner, there's been no journeys, and Chloe, Jorgie and now Beth have all been left stalled - without a great routine to move on to, after something that suggested they were capable of something really good.

Not sure if you can argue, though, that the lack of great routines set in after Hayley - because Jai Ho is imported. the last really tight competitive year with several great routines from two compettitors may be series 3?

They never really recovered once the person they had spent the most money and promo time on left in week 1

Ashley really hasn't been a good addition to the panel, she is a bit on the bland side and this is coming from someone who really hoped she would win I'm A Celebrity last year

No wow performances that have really deserved big marks

Judging has been really poor and dare I say it a bit biased, Matt IMO should have been booted when he fell in the skate off and Samia should have gone against Cheggers

And as for the Cheggers exit, think that was the final straw for a lot of people as far as this series went

And less said about the blatent Matt overmarking last week the better

God people have short memories. This year has been massively flawed, but it hardly deserves that amount of votes, as most of its problems exist in many other years too. In fact other years have been worse when it comes to getting rid of good skaters early.

Series 5 is for me the absolute worst of the lot - even though Hayley is one of the best they've had. There was no competition for the second year in a row (but at least in Ray's year several other skaters were enjoyable to watch, especially Jess, something that was hardly true of series 5), at this point we'd seen it all before, and then of course the absolutely cringeworthy and desperate attempts by the judges to make Gary Lucy seem decent and like a competitor, when in other years he'd be a 5th placer at best.

Which brings up another point: strange and/or biased marking and peculiar comments have existed here since day one - this year is no better or worse for it. Another example from series 5 was the forced OTT marking of Daniella in one week towards the end that put her top of the leaderboard. A good routine, but still not better than Hayley. Some will disagree but I doubt many did, and I believe Hayley quite rightly topped the public vote that week. She was the best every week by far. Thank god she was there because otherwise that series was deathly dull and several other people were made to look better than they were.

Yes, Endless Love - a stunning routine. Plus I think many of the others, like Get Happy and Just Dance (if they hadn't fallen!) were pretty exceptional.

While the choreography is tired now, I don't buy that things were better earlier on - it was just new to us. Look back at old routines that people remember like Suzanne's "Music" and Claire's "Since You've Been Gone" and there is nothing especially brilliant about them over some of the newer routines. There is little difference in quality. The difference is we've just seen it all before.

If "Music" was presented to us now in series 8 would we really all go "wow"? Hardly. It's all been done. And we can all look for as many excuses as we like for falling ratings, but it comes down to that and that alone I think. Nothing is exciting anymore. I don't doubt that it could be, but it means major changes.

I've always thought recently if we had a series chock full of brilliant skaters it could improve - this is why I'd love one with the general public, say a group of people who are great at it but have never done it professionally, all paired with a pro, with a cash prize at the end and/or some kind of role in an ice show perhaps. It might actually be exciting to watch then.

There is now nothing more boring than watching average celebrities totter around doing the same old stuff. Only thing keeping me going this series is Beth. Last year, Matt and Chemmy. Previously, Laura. And so it goes on back to Series 3 which was the last time the entire show was enjoyable because it hadn't yet become tired. Not because of the quality - that is no different, and in fact arguably many of the routines these days are more complex and tricky. But it makes no odds - we've still seen it all before.

They can make all the changes they like but this show will die if the routines stay as they are.

Last year's definitely. Nobody stood out and the whole thing appeared very robotic.
