Favourite Apprentice Series?
I would say series 3 for me. Maybe close second would be 2 and 4.
The last couple of series have been a disaster for me. |

Favourite adult series - Series 7.
Favourite Young series - Series 2. If I had to choose a favourite overall, I wouldn't be able to, as these were as good as each other to me. 2011 was a good year for The Apprentice. |

Series 3 will always be my favourite, the first one I watched and nothing has come close to it since for me.

It may just be me but I've always found Series 3 to be a bit overrated. I liked Series 5 as well but actually, if you honestly asked me what my favourite three series of The Apprentice were, I'd say the last three.
I would probably have to agree with George, Series 7 was an excellent series with loads of classic episodes from Ed Hunter in the first one all the way to the hilarious Freemium Magazine episode and and the epic Paris episode as well as Emergency Biscuit! Series 6 is the most underrated series for me. My favourite episode still is possibly the Scavenger Hunt episode in that series (Liz bombs as PM, the boys look to be getting their arse kicked and they somehow pull the win out of the bag) but there were other great episodes including the Bus Tours and Product Selling episodes. Even if the job didn't exactly work out, I still maintain that Stella was a terrific and thoroughly deserving winner. Series 8 was lambasted on these forums but looking back I really enjoyed it. I think that the Top Four as well as Gabrielle and Duane were all terrific candidates and although some of LS's decisions were dodgy, most were understandable. The only thing that sullied it for me was Adam getting as far as he did and getting this ridiculous OTT You're Fired where everyone seemed to think he was a saint. However, I did have a grudging respect for him. As for the Young Apprentice, I think the second series was a great success and is the best series by a long, long way. The Top Six were all fantastic (I would argue better than any candidate in either of the other two series; certainly superior to everyone in Series 3) and it was extremely enjoyable to watch. I did like the first Series, but it was inferior to Series 2 and Series 3 was alright, but I was disillusioned by Patrick and Maria making it to the Final. |

I've been watching since Series 6, and that remains my favourite.
![]() I've not liked the four-finalists thing in the last couple of years, I prefer having just two. The triple firing in Series 6 was great TV, and upped the stakes, making getting a place in the final more meaningful. |

Series 3 was memorable purely and simply because of Katie Hopkins, and that is it. She really made her mark on the show. Even Tre has had other people like him. There has never been another Katie, and there never will be. Series 5 will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first series I ever watched. I also like Series 1 a lot.
Quote:
I liked the 2011 series because they had lots of really good people. Blunders are hilarious, but I like seeing people do well even more.
Quote:
My issue with Series 6 is that it appeared to have lots of idiots on it. Stuart obviously, but also Dan, Shibby, Melissa, Paloma... the list goes on, although as you know, I did really like Laura, one of the people that everyone thought was a huge waste of space.
Quote:
I enjoyed Series 8 as much as any, I didn't know why it was so hated! Okay, some of the characters weren't as memorable as in other series... but that's more to do with the editing of the individual episodes than the actual format I think. (Also, is it just me, or has everyone called Adam that has ever been on the show been carved from the same mould?)
Quote:
Agreed. Apart from Harry M (who I couldn't stand), the top six in Series 2 were very strong, and even Hayley, who was fired a week earlier, had her moments. My issue with Series 3 was, as you said, lots of good people went early. If the final six had had Navdeep, Alice and Sean, instead of Patrick, Maria and Andrew, it would have been far better. (Having said that, I did think Patrick was much better than he was made out to be, and I think he got a very raw deal with the editing actually. I had money on him to win in the final.)
My ideal Top 6 for Series 3 would be: + Andrew + Steven + Navdeep + Lucy + Ashleigh + Alice I know I'm in the minority, but I really saw a lot in Andrew and I did think that he got a lot of unnecessary flack from other candidates as well. I would be lying if I said he didn't fall off in later weeks, but look at him in the first four, maybe even five weeks and he was consistently in the top performers. Steven was a good candidate and was the early frontrunner for me. However, he did very little mid-series and where he finished (6th place) was about right for me. Navdeep was unfairly fired, particularly the week after she delivered a landslide victory as PM. To be honest, I wouldn't have begrudged her a place in the final ahead of Andrew. Lucy was the Top performer mid-series and I was actually rooting for her to win at the Final. I would have liked to see her take the crown for her creativity (something which I don't believe Ashleigh has) Deserved to finish in the Top 2. Ashleigh deserved to be in the final, but I'm not sure she deserved to win it. I think she was a bit of a one-trick pony in terms of the fact she never spent much and, as I previously said, she didn't show much creativity. I liked Alice, though I mainly put her here through lack of other options. I think she showed more than Maria (shouting other people down) and Patrick (did virtually nothing). |

Yeah, but Series 3 had an unsatisfactory winner and several decent people (i.e. Adam) scapegoated for no particular reason. It was no Series 4, but it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. I also enjoyed Series 1 because it was good enough to maintain the long-term future of the show. Paul and Saira were a fundamental part of this (One of the reasons I liked Saira so much).
Quote:
Oh, don't get me wrong, I think there were a lot of brilliant candidates in Series 7 (Arguably the strongest Final Four ever) but several episodes, particularly the Freemium Magazine one, are just so funny to watch. I think Susan is one of the strongest candidates ever to appear on the show.
Quote:
You say that, but to be fair, all of those candidates that you mention, bar Stuart were gone by Week 6. Series 6 had some strong candidates in there: Stella (though I know a lot of people disagree), Chris, Joanna, Liz; even Jamie who was one my favourites. I didn't like Laura but that's down to what individual viewers can see in specific candidates. Ultimately, I think that the problem with Series 6 is that most people's memories are about Stuart and there was a lot more to that series than him.
Quote:
Harry M is one the most interesting candidates to look at. His record was appalling, but that wasn't really down to him. He was hated by most of the other candidates and this is where I think he really falls down. His people skills were awful. If the PM didn't roll with his idea, he took this as a personal insult and he built up resentment towards the other candidates, so much so that he forced everyone to go with his idea when he was PM in Week 5. If you look past the fact that he seemed unlikable, he did have terrific sales skills and entrepreneurial flair that a lot of the other candidates didn't have. A place in the Top 6 was deserved in my opinion. Any further would be pushing it.

I agree, I really haven't like the format of the previous 2 series. I guess it makes more sense to do it like that considering how there have been no success stories in terms of the series 1-6 winners working for LAS, but it just makes the whole process seem pointless when in the final it all comes down to business plans. Tom Pellerau is a good example of this. I hate having interviews for the final as well, I liked them when they were on the penultimate week, but having them for the final just seems so anti climatic.

Series 8 was the first I watched at time of airing and I thought it was brilliant. Never have I understood the hate for it. Out of the first 7 series, which I watched on YouTube, the first two series felt very real, dramatic and had something different to the others, not sure what though, but I like them all!

My favourite ever has to be the one with Susan Ma in it - the entertainment was brilliant with Susan coming out her shell in the boardroom and "Caracas"!!
I also liked the one with Yasmina and Kate in it, but can't remember it that well. My least favourite has to be the 2012 one, it was so boring! I've liked series 2 + 3 of junior apprentice - Maria is probably my favourite out of both those two. |

Do you know what you found boring about it? There has been quite a lot of discussion about that series on this thread.

![]() Also because the entertainment level was pushed up in series 3 (Katie Hopkins) and series 4 (with even the winner looking bad). They redeemed themselves with series 5 and the last few series have also been good (even if in the 2012 series, you could get a final place by drawing a penguin). Mind you, most of the candidates in the first 2 series would not survive very long in any of the other series (understandably, as the amount of applicants was much lower back then). In short: Series 5 is my favourite series and Yasmina is easily my favourite candidate ever. |

One thing I have realised that made Series 8 stand out was that it was undoubtedly the best series for red herrings. Right from Episode 1, Katie was set up to look like the first casualty, and it was quite a shock when Sugar changed his mind and went for Bilyana instead. From that point onwards, Katie looked like she would go quite a long way in the series, as did Jane and Duane, but all of them went quite early on. Similarly, Adam and Jenna practically screamed 'early casualty', but they both had redemption arcs. And then in the final, I don't think that many people expected Ricky to win, based on his edit. He was edited like one of those loudmouths they always have who last a long way, but don't quite make it that far - but he did, and he was quite a satisfying winner as well, even though I think in all fairness Nick should have won. |

I love the first 3 series in particular but if I had to pick one it would be Series 2.

Five and seven. Interesting candidates, good tasks, exciting boardrooms, a lot of business nouse on display - not just about no-hopers making mistakes. Series seven, in particular, every single finalist earnt their place. You might not have liked all of them, but it was clear why they were there. Completely entertaining, start to finish.
If I had to pick one, I might give the edge to seven. Most interesting and diverse range of candidates, and I think even the early boots, you can imagine going on to do well, moreso than in any of the previous series. Gavin Winstanley, Alex Britez Cabral, Felicity Jackson - made mistakes, occasionally shambolic ones, but you can see them acing their day jobs. Of the other series - six was entertaining, but had very few promising candidates. Lots of dead-firees-walking. Candidates in eight were a little less interesting. Ricky and Gabrielle were good fun, but many of the designated finalists were a little dull, and got through the process without any real risk whatsoever. Not great for personalities. Four - mad as a box of frogs, fun cast, ridiculous cast, the most combustible ever, but a bit too spiteful. I can't imagine any of them ended up on anyone else's Christmas card lists. Series one's ace, love series one, interesting, varied, good bunch of personalities. Probably my third favourite. Two and three, three's the more interesting for tasks, personalities, more eventful, two's got a more likeable cast doing samier tasks. Not a bad series of the Apprentice, never yet, but there's a sort of Star Trek rule, where the odd-numbered ones tend to be the most interesting. This bodes well for S9 in a couple of weeks time. |

Series 4 was the most entertaining for me with the Kosher Chicken episode (Best apprentice episode I have ever seen in any version of the show). I remember it was such a shock when he fired 2 peeps that week and brought back the whole team for elimination Sir Alan was so angry
and the Jenny "Your Fired" was priceless. However the winner Lee was just =/. Claire should have won. |

Has anyone ever felt able to relate to someone who did badly on the programme? I felt a bit like that with Melissa in Series 6. I felt sorry for her really, because the skills were clearly there (she had some business sense as she pushed for gourmet sausages in the first task, and was quite successful in her day job) but the pressure of the show got to her so much that she ended up a) not showing what she was capable of and b) looking like a complete idiot. She came across quite well on the You're Fired! programme. Not that I think she could have gone further, it was absolutely right that she was fired when she was, but I did feel that I could relate to her, as I felt she represented the worst parts of my own personality. When I'm insecure about something, I also come across as being overly confident, and you can't do that for long before you burn yourself out. |

This. I like the series of The Apprentice that have people who are actually really good. Some people think that the entertainment comes from watching people screw up - and I suppose it does a little bit, but for me, the joy of the programme is seeing people do well, and choosing who I want to win and keeping my eye on them throughout. Series 1, Series 5, Series 7 and I suppose to some extent Series 8 all had that, plus the first two series of Young Apprentice. While the other series had some great people, they were more the exceptions than the rules.
That might be why some people are watching it, but I genuinely like the entre-tainment thing. I like the shade and tone. There is entertainment in a Pants-Man-esque unmitigated disaster, but there's also a real joy in seeing business done really, properly well, or as you say, in following a candidate, and championning them. Jim Eastwood's supernatural haggling abilities still boggle my mind. The series that cover both sides of the spectrum are, for me, the most entertaining. |
