Mechanically separated meat

MMM,

I really don't see the big deal in it myself, I just had some Griddlers that I got from Iceland and they was fine.

Years ago people used to scrape meat off the bone, MSM is just a faster way of doing it.

I'm not sure it is. In the past the scrags of meat might have been collected up and minced but the MSM process basically turns it into sludge.

I've seen kebabs made that way though and I still eat them.

Is that that MRM stuff? Anyone remember some BBC3 show that covered this with some guy called Alex Riley? It was a good series actually, interesting. I only have it when we have proper hotdogs from a tin or jar mmm, had it on Friday actually, fresh white rolls with loads of ketchup and mustard, onions and homemade chips with loads of salt and vinegar on. My mouth's watering

I wonder if such things were prominently advertised on the pack that whatever it is contains mechanically separated meat, whether people would still buy them?

Me too. Plus i have a strange attraction to really cheap hot dog sausages, made from mechanically recovered chicken injected with pork flavourings. Mmmm.

Most people with half a brain know that already. I love Doner Kebabs, I know they're made from crap but I don't have them very often.

I think we all know that it is not the best of meat that goes into these products, that is why they are cheaper.

On these Griddlers it is large print on the side, so it is not hidden. I am not saying it is something you have everyday, but now and again it is ok.

I normally get my burgers and Sausages from a Butchers and then freeze them.

Meatballs, either Sainsburys Basics or Aldis. Saying that it don't say mechanically recovered meat on the tin of Sainsburys Basic Meatballs, so it can't be, I have no idea about Aldis.

What's the difference between eating part of an animal's arse/leg/chest to it's stomach/eyelids/lips/tail?

It does get mentioned, all reformed meat is usually mechanically separated.

I can buy 500g of lean scottish minced beef for under a £5er from my local butcher, this can do 2 people, 2 meals for 2 nights. How much is a Donner Kebab? roughly a £5er too? So to say its because its cheaper is Bollocks, I used to work in the meat industry and can safely say that you are probably eating BOLLOCKS (among many other things). Enjoy

Most people with half a brain would also know that you have no idea whats in a Donner Kebab, ask your local takeaway chappie, he won't have a clue either. He'll just gladly accept your money for his low-grade dog shit. Standards mmm

if it says "chopped and shaped", I don't buy.

eg - compare a whole breast Chicken Kiev with a "chopped and shaped" one. No comparisment.

I am not a big meat eater to be honest, but I do know what good meat looks like.

I doubt any one here will challenge you on that, but it comes down to cost and what people can afford.

I bet most people on here got some sort of cheap tinned meat or a cheap pie stuck in their cupboards/fridge.

My brother went to a local butchers a week ago when we was sorting out my Dad new place and he got a pie from there, he said it was not cheap, but oh so nice, it was made on the premises.
