Matt was good on performance - but didn't have that many technical skills.

Half way through the series in previous years they were all doing little jumps - and some - Ray and Chris were doing amazing jumps really early on.

Best ever - I think not”

As Tiger Rose has said Beth did the solo 1 Foot spin and a jump and that was in Leveller week and I think Luke has been doing waltz jumps here and there. Matt has not attempted anything techincal that I am aware of.

I'm actually wondering if that is the reason for the lack of "skills" tests this time around because potentially their "golden boy" Matt was not capable of actually doing the technical skills like the jumps spins whatever and to do a skills test would have shown this up properly whereas he has been able to hide behind the flashy performance and speed and not really do anything that brilliant in comparison to what those who have gone before have done.

I think that is very possible. Am I right in remembering previous years where there have been skaters who had been performing really well and everyone thought were going to do well - but who failed when it came to skills test week?

I think it was Mathew or Jorgie last year were Robin said they had cheated on the skills test. I also remember it happening but cant remember out of the two who it was.

Matt this year was the best of a bad bunch but when you compare him with past male celebrities, then you can see how much better were Ray Quinn, Chris Fountain and Sam Attwater, to name but three.
It is the male celebrity that has the hardest job as he has to try and emulate a male professional with all that it involves.

Have they forgotten about Ray Quinn and his split jump?
Chris Fountain and his amazing spin?
Kyran Bracken.. just in general?

I mean come on. Matt is as good as he was week 1, he hasn't done anything new or WOW.”

I agree this was the stupid comment of the series. Besides which some of the best potential went in the early weeks.

But if he does lack skills it should be up to Robin and Karen to point it out

No one's ever attempted it since as far as I can remember.

Re Matt - I enjoyed watching him. He was a better performer than Beth, but I enjoyed her gymnastic ability as much as I enjoyed his performance ability.”

Thanks for posting the link, that was amazing. Beth came close to doing the drill spin a few weeks ago and I thought they'd build on it but they didn't. I'm sure she was capable, after all when you've done spins on a beam I dont think you'd be phased by it.

A combination of delusion and short term memories I agree he was good in week one but very little if any progress Mind you as Brianne obviously thought the sun shone out of his a**e she wouldn't think he needed to improve

I dont think the male celebs were a bad bunch - Gareth was fantastic, Keith was fab, even Luke improved steadily week after week, Shane was unfortuantely knocked out before he could make an impression but he was a solid skater with promise

Agreed, Ray performed with ease, he could almost have been performing on stage and not on ice, Matts posture was bad IMO, he hurried through routines NEVER completing a move to the tips of his fingers, a bit like a bull in a China shop.

I posted the link of Ray and Maria doing Baillamos (spelling). Brilliant routine, hard to tell pro from celeb.

Ray also had the added hurdle/difficulty that he and Maria weren't that much different in height so the big flashy lifts that Matt and Brianne did each week were a no go for him. Therefore he HAD to rely on his skating skills - steps and presentation to get the marks and in my opinion has been the most impressive male skater to date.

He's not fit to lace Ray Quinn's boots.

Best skater my derriere.

Valdebos I think. Great routine but all of Ray and Maria's were with so much content. Matt greatest skater=bollocks.

Thanks for posting this. Ray was just brilliant and he is the best male skater on DOI by a country mile. Those were the days.

I agree, they could have pushed her a bit more on spins and jumps. Maybe it's a health and safety thing. they've had some pretty nasty injuries over the years, broken ankles etc.

Here's Chris doing a couple of jumps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgKKVdwyu4M
