I agree with this. They were the strongest boleros than in all the previous series.

I`d have preferred to see Gareth - despite his size he just didn`t appear as clunky and lumpy as Matt towards the end.

Yes I agree but I meant out of those that performed on the night.

Me too, I was gutted that he had to drop out. On the night there wasn't a lot to chose but think maybe Beth edged it.

Beth & Dan - I really didn't like Matt & Brianne's choregraphy just didn't feel right. Maybe I'm a traditionalist but Beth & Dan was really what you expect from a bolero & executed brilliantly.

Beth.

Matt's was very staccato, bordering on aggressive. I found it quite disappointing.

Beth and dan,mat was a bit clumsy imo.

Beth's was beautiful, lyrical and romantic, what Bolero should be. Matt and Brianne tried contemporary but I didn't like it, looked like he was trying to kill her.

Beth for me (I was supposed to be having a shower while it was on but when I heard Beth was first I wanted to watch her then I had to watch Matt just so I'd know myself that Beth was better

Having seen the Bolero performed each year, it was refreshing to see Matt give it a fresh take. That made it superior. And why didn't anyone mention the mistake when Beth didn't catch her second leg in that move that made the whole spin wobbly? If there's been any favouritism, it's in the fact that voters gave the win to Beth before tonight's show event started, despite Matt's superior performances.

Beth .. Matt looked like he was in a ice hockey game

Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt. Gutted he didn't win.

Beth was good too but it was not perfect. It was quite a mess at the end when she let go of one foot.

Matt's on the other hand was certainly more contemporary, but the way he loomed over Brianne, hardly looked at her and made it look all about himself... The only "story" I could take from it was maybe it was an abusive relationship and the end was a murder suicide? He's a great skater when it's his style, but not very adaptable...

tl;dr: Beth's was my favourite”

Romantic is boring, predictable and girly. It was nice to see something different.

Beth by miles.

Matts ridiculous hand twirling stretch thing at the beginning made all my family laugh out loud.

He just didn't get it.

Beth by a mile, it recaptured what T & Ds origional Bolero was about
Couldn't stand Matts Bolero it was just wrong IMO

Romantic is also passionate and tragic. Bolero was about two lovers who can't be together hurling themselves off a volcano. Not an aggressive take on domestic violence.

^This^

For me Matts Bolero made me think he was acting like a controlling man who wanted his lover to obey him no matter what. And if she didnt he was going to give her slap.

This .... Beth and Dan's was flowing, cohesive, understatedly dramatic and beautiful

whereas, for me, Matt and Brianne's was aggressive, clumsy and didn't flow ... rushing and lumbering from one big lift/trick to another with little eye contact

It was like Richard III and Golam having a wrestling match ... it was like they hated each other

I think they have tried for years to add something to it and ended up with some strange additions - even with their very best people. Suzanne, for example, had a very strange, overly long move, Hayley didn't get as much in. Matt didn't do great choregraphing Jorgie or Suzanne. Beth managed to get some wow moves in that were very quick and dramtic but didn't take over the flow or mood. Clare is still pretty good too - very lyrical amd most like the original? But can't find it on youtube any more.
