Even when he stumbled in the skate off? Beth has never done that

I'm so glad Beth won but feel a bit sorry for Matt after the constant praise the judge gave him, he must have thought he had it in the bag

She also has the votes of many, many young gymnasts that look up to her and see it is possible for a British gymnast to be the best in the world.

No, you're not the only one. Matt was, without doubt, the better skater and performer. Beth was very good, but not in the same league as Matt.

It just goes to show that for many the voting is based on popularity and nothing more.

Delightful end to a below average (and possibly the last) series

Judges faces were absolute pictures, all that subtle manipulation for nothing

Pip couldn't even be gracious handing the flowers over and nor could Torvill and Dean when handing the trophy over

Mrs Lampard was the only one genuinely happy for the winners from what I could see

All in all it hasn't really gone right for the producers this year

I mean they lost their star attraction in week 1 and they never really got the viewers back after that disaster, ratings plummeted and the show teeters on the brink

Just a matter of waiting now to see if the show is back next year

Am so pleased Beth and Dan won, they deserved it. Their bolero was beautiful and was skated gracefully, it flowed nicely, whereas i found Matts bolero quite aggressive without any grace.

Matt was a good skater, but found him quite cocky at times. Fed up of bodypopping dancing too. I just felt that Beth and Dan had the right connection on the ice.

As for the judges, they seemed quite subdued with their applause at the end of the show. Karen and Jason especially. They obviously thought Matt was the winner, well the public spoke and chose the winner. The best couple won - Well done Beth and Dan.

I don't know about that. He certainly wasn't in a different league to her. He may have been a more charismatic performer but that was often at the expense of accuracy and a degree of musicality. Personally, I preferred Beth on merit. For example, her bolero was skated much more smoothly and transitions between movements flowed much better, despite the mistake during the last lift. Matt's I found very staccato, almost aggressive and, therefore, lacking in feel for the music.

The Brits don't like a bit of self-confidence - they have a tendency to confuse it with arrogance and want to exterminate it. Shame that!

I see Beth as very confident in herself, Matt on the other hand I see as arrogant.

Self confindence I don't have a problem with out and out cockyness and arrogance I do and that is what Matt has IMO.

He thought he had it sewn up from Day 1 and didn't actually have to work to improve as the judges would just help him sail through.

Beth was the more than deserving winner tonight she has been chronically undermarked in an attempt to manipulate a Matt win which I can only presume was potentially facilitate moving him into some role at ITV.

As the judges were so OTT with remarks about Matt I think
Beth probably won it on a sympathy vote.

Judges take note.............

Thrilled for Beth & Dan.

Particularly pleased that when we have a series where for the first time a female competitor was the best technical skater that it was rewarded by the public even if the judges didn't promote this fact as much as they should have.

Also lovely to see a non showbizzy person winning for the first time in 6 years & also well done to Beth on being the first sportswoman to win a British reality show.

There you go, people clearly voting for preferred personality of one contestant over dislike of another.

As good as Beth was, anyone who really beleives Beth should have won is simply fooling themselves.

I can't say that I initially took to Matt, but without doubt, he was the better skater/performer.

Well said George - you've hit the nail on the head.
It's about preferred personalities of the GBP rather than skating ability.

Pah! This is something new, is it? Reality shows are not normally popularity contests? Is that what you think?

Yes, but I am still pleased that she won. Anyway, they have both benefited from the publicity, and Matt has a well-defined career to return to.

Define well-defined!! He's had only one role that he wasn't very popular in.

I didnt vote over personality as I didnt know Beth or Gareth before the show. I also gave Gareth a hard time when he twitted that Ashley didnt like him. But after watching the season Beth and Gareth was the one I supported as they was the ones who improved the most with their skating.

Matt on the other hand was real good at the start but didnt not improve over time as his posture was still hunched by the end of it all and also he didnt seam to go as far as basic skating. Yes his dance moves were good and his acting was good, But I look at skating as well and that didnt match up to the rest of what he should have been by this time.
