Paul Anka only wrote the lyrics.

"My Way" is a song popularized by Frank Sinatra. Its lyrics were written by Paul Anka and set to music based on the French song "Comme d'habitude" composed in 1967 by Claude François and Jacques Revaux, with lyrics by Claude François and Gilles Thibault. "Comme d'habitude" had in turn originally been written in English, titled "For Me". Anka's English lyrics are unrelated to the original French song or the earlier English version. "My Way" is often quoted as the most covered song in history.

That's a nice cover. I'm not sure about 'far superior' but it's certainly as good as the original. Could do without that blonde bint in though. Makes up for Whiskey In The Jar I guess

I'm going to go for Sabaton's cover of Rammstein's Feuer Frei. I love both bands & much as I've tried I can't pick a favourite version.

Sabaton has taken it a bit harder & whilst Till Lindemann of Rammstein sounds to be very close to the edge of madness, Joakim Broden of Sabaton sounds like he's way past that point & has become rather dangerous.

I just can't separate them. Love both to a ridiculous degree

Maybe I should just listen to the Youtube version where someone has combined both versions, for maximum epicness.

Anka didn't write the melody, he merely wrote the English lyrics for Sinatra's version, and subsequently recorded it himself.

The original is a French song entitled "Comme D'Habitude", first recorded by Claude Francois.

An earlier set of English lyrics than those by Paul Anka for "Comme D'Habitude" were written by a then unknown David Bowie, who recorded his own version, but was not satisfied with the result and so shelved it.

The Beatles recorded my favourite version, but I also love the Isley Brothers version which was also a cover.

The original version was by a group called the Top Notes. It's pretty awful.
