i am quiet sure i have not text, or anything else, to any ringtones. free or otherwise.... no one has text me with any messages before... this is the first occasion...
but i will be very cross indeed if they start to rob me of £1.50
every time they send their unwanted text.. as this is theft....
i shall have to get another sim card.. and a inconvience........

To send unsolicited texts and reverse charged texts is an offence. See ICSTIS for further information.

I know that paul is stating he never subscribed, but many of these so-called 'service-content' providers are complete con-artists and this is just another post of many in several threads on DS stating this.

My personal opinion is;

DON'T USE SHORT CODE PROVIDERS!!

Get your content from your Network Provers Portal (either Vodafone live!, O2 Active, t-zones, Orange World or Today on 3).

Anyway, back to Paul - have you entered your mobile on any web-sites lately?

mr cable... i never ever enter my mobile no on to a web site
i dont even hand it out to my bank manager.... cos i know what will happen
and spam will be on my phone in a jiffy......

Thats actually an advantage of 3, that you only really receive that kind of mail from them, and you're not charged for it. Happened a lot to me on Orange, so much I had to cancel my contract.

I'm having a similar problem with 88833 after trying to download a (payed for) ringtone.

I now get content settings sent every week, but no actual content itself.

I can't now remember the name of the company, and have tried replying with 'unsubscribe', but no luck.

Any ideas ? Once bitten, twice shy !

Paulsanderson, try ringing 0870 1217397 - it's their cust serv number. they "should" be able to remove the texts for ya. Also email info@jamster.co.uk or even try sending stop to 88888

Elgm - try 0871 8725169 for customer service. alternatively, email support@netvision.uk.com. Again, try sending stop to 88833. (the name of the company appears to be Opera Telecom)

9 out of 10 times contacting the company in question doesnt work. try calling this number 0845 6667778 (i got it from ICSTIS) they will bar reverse premium texts from your number within 24 hours.

i tried contacting o2 about mine when i was getting them from 87788, they told me to contact the company themselves, i did and it was an answering machine that never let you leave a message, next was ICSTIS they gave me that number after telling me that half the time sending STOP back to the number doesnt work.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that half the time these things don' work - or don't work well - but that does leave the other half...................................

Have either of you had any premium rate sms' since?

Your number doesnt have to be listed anywhere. Its possible for the company to send out 5 million text messages to sequential numbers rather than specific, wait delivery reports from those and then add the successful ones to their database.
