Which soap currently has the best selection of:
Young kids?
Young teenagers? Young adults? Pensioners? Bar staff? Business/work places outside of the pubs? Villains? Just a random poll... For me: Young Kids: Much as I think Chesney is hugely overrated, he's still good and the new Rosie is fabulous so it has to be Corrie. Young teenagers: Emmerdale. I think Daz and Debbie are great, both good actors too. Corrie is a close second with Rosie and Craig. Young adults: Family Affairs by far. The new year's gathering summed that up for me, and the ones that don't get on (Olly and Jake), only make it work even more. There's a good chemistry between the cast there, and Katie especially gives them more sparkle. Corrie's is good for the sheer variation - Kirk and Fiz, Leanne and Jamie etc. Emmerdale's probably needs to improve - there's Scott and Yawn, and little else except the older teenagers who are some way in between this category and the last one. Same as Sarah-Lou etc... Pensioners: Well this is certainly Corrie - Rita, Blanche, Norris, Betty, Emily - absolute quality and all provide comedy or drama moments. Emmerdale does very good though; Edna, Betty, Len, Pearl and Jarvis make a marvellous "team", and you could well beleive they were neighbours. Edna is my overall current favourite old person in soap though, simply because she can handle the bigger storylines and yet can play the comedy character too. This is an area EE has always been poor in - how long have they relied on Jim and Dot for that? Seems like forever. Patrick and Yolande are the only other two really, and they're so under used. And FA only appear to have Sadie and Myra, which is very lame! Bar Staff: Emmerdale for sure. Diane, Louise, Chas, Bob and Marlon - the banter between them is fab, really nice vibe going on there and Diane and Lou make a cracking landlady team. Corrie's is utterly dire at the moment...Shelley is quite depressing. Liz is alright and Fred fabulous but as a team I don't like it because they sort of do their own thing. The FA double act of Eileen and Pete is ace, along with the bubbly Katie as barmaid. Very good set up there. Business/work places outside of the pubs: Corrie, because you can't beat the factory girls, plus Roy's Rolls always has quality moments with Roy, Hayley, Vera, Frankie and Leanne. FA deserve a mention for their salon staff though, I enjoy that lot. Emmerdale should make better use of its factory and the cafe staff. Villains: Emmerdale by a LONG shot - Sadie, Steph and Cain are marvellous and couldn't be any more different, then you have Chloe who has done some nasty things lately for a small-time bitch, and Matthew King who is obviously very sinister and I expect we'll see the results of that soon. |

i have not got the time to do it all but I agree about Chesney what will corrie do when he hits puberty and has spots all over his face? good actor for his age but he is nothing special he reminds me of how EE used to use Sonia they could more or less be the same.

Wow, I agree with everything you've said, except I don't watch FA but I assume you're right because everything else you said I agree with.

Young kids?
Corrie by far. Jaci Stephen in the Weekend Magazine claimed Sam Aston was the best child actor ever found or something like that. With a new Sophie actress [who is going to be very good] and Rosie/Craig, they're ahead by miles. Young teenagers? Corrie do have Sarah/Candice/Maria/Jamie/Tyrone, [purposely leaving out warren ], and they work well together.Neighbours arent too bad with Serena/Boyd/Lana/Skye Young adults? Fiz and Kirk work well in Corrie Pensioners? Corrie by far - and they have been around for ages - emily vera jack ken betty blanche, and newer editions such as norris Bar staff? Emmerdale by far Business/work places outside of the pubs? Corrie - roys rolls, underworld, butchers etc Villains? Emmerdale with cain/sadie/steph, but corrie have just had mad maya... |

Best selection of:
Young kids-Corrie, used to be brookie with Josh and so on. Also Tom the kid in hollyoaks is a good actor. Young teenagers- Hollyoaks or Neighours or Home and away(very close),seem not to be used in big storylines like when Brookside used Antony in bully storyline and as walked home bully who was a girl followed him and he accidentally killed her as they fought in a pond/area filled with swerage. Young adults-Hollyoaks, nearly the whole cast. Pensioners- used to be brookie with Ray,Jessie, Ron dixon,The one thats in Emerdale now from Brookside. Now corrie's Oldies deserve a mention. But soap legend in Hollyoaks Mr c(killed off but came back as a ghost in the soap for a while to talk to bombhad who later had to let go of the ghost and he was not able to admit his mum had died and was living with the dead body) is worth a mention as he was a pensioner or near that age. Bar staff-Emmerdale with Bob,Louuise, Diane and so on. Business/work places outside of the pub-Hollyoaks as has/had people work in/have as part of their set: a nightclub, restaurant, convienience store, garage/shop, chemist, school set used, college set used,a gym and so on. Villains-Hollyoaks with Scott Anderson, Steph from when against Ellie, Toby the serial killer in Hollyoaks who died. But corrie's maya and Richard deserve a mention. |

You seem to have forgotten the Hollyoaks teenagers......... In Steph and Debbie you have possibly the sexiest soap siblings of all time......... Then there is is Lisa, Bella and Zara and Lee and Bombhead bring much needed light relief.........
Then you have the older residents in Max & OB who are blinding looking after little Tom who, for me, far outshines anything Chesney can do...... If the 'mainstream' wasn't so snobbish then this little fella would walk away with all the plaudits............ |

Agree with the posts about little Ellis Hollins (i think), who plays Tom on Hollyoaks - he must only be about 5/6 and he's a brilliant little actor - he's not wooden and his lines dont come across as being forced.
He could teach the rest of the Hollyoaks "actors" a thing or two. Chesney is also great though, but I agree slightly overrated. |

I've got a couple of new catagories to add.
The adults - People who are about 30 to late 30s and maybe in a couple, prime example - Steve from Corrie. Another category - Can't think of a name for them, but people who are more nearing middle age and have kids. Prime example - Sally from Corrie or Keith from EE. |

Young kids: Coronarion Street
Chensey Brown and Sophie Webster are excellent, and work well as a team, FAB! Young teenagers: Emmerdale Debbie is fab at playing an attitude teenager and I like Daz, cos - I dunno. Young adults: Coronarion Street I love Jamie, Leanne, Warren, Candice, Sarah, (Adam? Haven't seen much), Maria, Tyrone because they're not like the young adults on EE - all together all the time with the same career. But Corrie - Different careers, different times. Pensioners: Coronarion Street Blanche Hunt is fab, but Norris and Vera and Jack are good too. Bar staff: Emmerdale They're all happy and learn to get along and there's a proper amount of them. Business/work places outside of the pubs: Coronarion Street Places like the factory and the salon are great, gossip and tea at the same time. Villains: Coronarion Street I love how they have one villain at a time and don't spread them out. Plus loved MayaFire! |

If the character is about the same age it's not too bad- but if there's a difference like with David (actor's about 16 and the character's about 13) then it looks silly. |

If he's much younger than 10 it will look very odd in a year or two. |

When Chesney first came into the show he was nine. I remember him having a bithday recently so logic tells me he is now 10. He'll be in secondary school either this September or next.
