Saw this yesterday for the 1st time and from the point of view that it pleasantly wasted a couple of hours it was fine...... However

Does anyone else feel that the basic concept could have been treated more seriously and taken a different route from the Rom Com version.

Accepting that the original idea that no one lies and that only 1 person can lie could they have created a more darker film taking it off into a scenario where utter chaos and despair exists or do you think it could have only been made as a comedy?

I agree but it I quite liked it, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World could of been brilliant but ended up rubbish.

The film is actually a crafty idea for promoting atheism, by suggesting that a similar situation must have existed on our own planet many generations ago and that is why many of us today believe in God.

I'm not a Ricky Gervais fan but I did like this film.

I think it was showing that people will beleive anything if it ends up good for them at the end. Even if it was veiled atheism, the fact that no one is meant to be able to lie, so anything said is seen as the truth, is alot different to religions of old, reeling people in with their words and the people not knowing if it's a truth or lie, but chosing faith.

I guess they could've got very dark with this, after all stick someone with a character like Hitler in his place and where would the nightmare end. But I think doing it as they did worked well, especially as the truthful speaking part can lead to amusing things said.

I think Ricky Gervais' work is fantastic but this and Life's too Short are the only two duds I can think of that he's done. This just came across as really cheesy to me but I did really like the concept.

I saw the film in the cinema and I did generally enjoy it.

However I just hated the Jennifer Ganer character and the whole idea that the Gervais character spends the whole movie trying to convince her to love him, even though he's not physically attractive. I don't understand why he likes her as she spends almost the entire film being a bitch to him.

I enjoyed it, although they did have some instances of lying (before Rickys character discovers how to lie)
eg the girl says to her mum on the phone, in front of Rickys character "No I wont be sleeping with him" amongst other personal observations.
When the call ends she says "sorry" (for the interruption) and he says "that's ok..dont think twice..hows your mum..alright?".....a lie, because his face betrays the fact hes NOT ok with it.

lol, ok I'm a bit picky...
