Jason's excuse for lack of response towards Beth's win

“Jason Gardiner has hit back at those who attacked him over his "glum face" during the Dancing on Ice final, revealing that he was trying to cope with the news that a family member is "critically ill".

Now I'm not disputing that this is false and I hope Jason's grandfather recovers very soon but...did all four of them have an issue like this?! One judge not giving a toss can be explained away by personal reasons but all four...???

If he was that concerned wouldn't he be on a plane right now?

Sorry for Jason and his family but to use that as an excuse is horses**t.

What a load of crap. Obviously he'd be upset but strange the glum look and hand on fist only happened when Beth was announced as the winner. His worry wasn't apparent at all in any other part of the show!

If it is true that he got the news about his Grandfather at that very moment then yes I could understand why he looked like that. But I cant see that happening after all they was going of air in about 5 mins so the best thing would have been to wait until off air.

If it was just before the show then lets not forget he was happy as Larry when gushing all over Matt so if he had got the news before the show there is no excuse.

Anyway this does not excuse the other judges and their lack of professionalism.

Anyway hope his Grandfather gets well soon.

I agree and he should be ashamed to use his grandfather in this way, even though he is probably ill.

Rubbish Jason, like everything that comes out of his mouth.

I agree - one judge can be explained away but all four of them were disgusted with the result; that much was obvious.

I wouldn't actually include Ashley in that. For all her faults she still seemed polite smiled and applauded. She did look a little uncomfortable as if the result was a suprise but she's very much the junior judge and it would have been difficult to break the party line. She also later tweeted congratations to Beth.

No excuses for the others who have done nothing since to repair the damage. Arrogance in the extreme.

I would argue that nothing stopped her giving a standing ovation but it's highly probable that she's never seen the show before so didn't realise that, until Sunday night, it was a standard response to congratulate the winner in that way.

She could have done but she would have isolated herself so it would have been brave and ad you say she hasn't seen the show before.

Just saying I didn't see a look of disgust from her and whilst it should be standard response to congratulate the winner she's still the only one (i think) who has.

I do agree with everything that's being said about the other 3 and have my doubts about Jasons excuse.

I agree about Ashley, when i watched it again, she looked awkward as to what was going on with the other judges why they weren't happy,as you say she prob hasn't seen the show and wouldn't know what was they usually stand up.

I'm going to say here what I was denied saying by the locking of another thread which was not because of my posts.

It's been said that the reaction to the judges is necessary because otherwise they'd think their conduct was OK. Assuming it wasn't OK however, I'm not convinced they'll be overly concerned to take on board the reaction of some viewers, however considerable it might appear. Jason's response is possibly defensive, but we don't know for sure. Robin has defended his stance, which suggests he's rightly or wrongly unapologetic. I think the points people are making have been noted, but I'm not sure what if anything will ensue.

Nothing may ensue but it makes us feel better being able to rant on here. It's no different than going on about it to family members or friends if you were discussing it with them. Speaking personally I have just emailed ITV to let them know my feelings - not the sort of thing I would normally do but I feel so strongly about the judges deplorable treatment of Beth.

Agree with all the other posts about Jason's reasoning for his glum face. I also feel a bit embarrassed for him, and it was strange that his pang of sadness coincided with Beth's win!

Hope his grandfather is getting better.

We are all now waiting for the excuses and reasoning to explain away the other three judges for their sudden glumness and lack of enthusiasm! Should be more exciting than the actual programme.

I don't understand the argument explaning it. He was elated when Matt performed. He then went into sad mode when he informed us that Matt was his champion anyway - well before the resukts were announced. I took that as being significant and that the panel had been told what the votes were looking like. He then looks glum and fed up to me when the result is announced. At what point did he hear any news that turned him being elated for Matt into being miserable because Beth won???

I feel the same as everybody that the judges behaviour was appalling as for Jason saying his grandfather is ill, there was a TV presenter a few weeks ago had some very sad news just before he went on a television programme and was very professional you would never had known about his sad news.
I think they didn't have the elements this year because Matt wasn't good enough to do them
I hope Jason's grandfather is recovering
