9300 Missing end when extension selected

I had two recordings set up the other night, one ending at 2100 on BBC4 and the other starting at 2100 on BBC2.

I have 5 minute start and finish extensions enabled, so BBC4 should have recorded until 2105 and BBC2 should have started at 2055. However they changed over bang on the hour with no extension on either. The extensions at the start of the BBC4 programme and the end of the BBC2 programme worked fine.

I was not using series link (or whatever they call the equivalent) as I know that the extensions do not work with that and I had no other programmes set up for that or any other time.

Can anyone come up with an explanation? Have I lost one tuner, and if I have how can I check that? I am stumped.

I think that the Humax always does this when there are consecutive programmes on different channels. The idea is to keep one of the tuners free for live watching - even if you have no intention doing this.

Is it a "feature" which can be disabled, or is there a workaround like doing a manual extension?

OK, I will report back later. I have just set up a couple of test recordings with a changeover at 1300 and I manually extended the basic time for each recording by 2 minutes at the changeover time.

Bargain Hunt BBC1 ends 1300 (set to 1302)
One Show BBC2 starts 1300 (set to 1258)

Yes, that had the desired effect.

Bargain Hunt recorded from 1210 to 1307 (5 minutes extension at start and 7 minutes at the end)
One Show recorded from 1253 to 1335 (7 minutes extension at start and 5 minutes at the end)

So there was a total of 14 minutes overlap which was recorded. A bit OTT, but better than missing a bit as happened the other night.

I have a Humax document that came out with v06 of the software when presumably Auto Padding was introduced. The document is for the 9200 but probably also applies to the 9300. It has examples of consecutive reservations that might be of interest to you, if you want it PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you.

Thank you very much. I have got it but have not yet had a chance to study it properly.

Cheers

Interestingly the document passed to me by Big-les (admittedly for the 9200) says
Quote:
“Q. I have set 2 programmes to record on different channels, one after the other; will the padding be included on both recordings?

A. Yes, the padding will be included on both recordings.”

which is exactly the opposite of what I observed the other night.
