Watching UK TV on an iPad while abroad?
We're off on holiday next week, to north cyprus.
I've put varius catch-up TV apps on the iPad, but I'm now wondering whether I can use them from a non-UK ISP. The wi-fi doesn't stretch to the rooms, but I had visions of sitting in bar, with a pint, watching Corrie. Or lying by the pool listening to radio 4 extra. |

Are there any apps to do this for an iPad? Is it jailbroken? I could link to a proxy site but i expect the link would be removed and i'd get a warning. |

I wouldn't even know what sort of app to look for. Actually, I don't even know what you mean by "jailbroken".

Tvcatchup won't work there, http://www.filmon.com will. They carry some of the UK freeview channels.
Cyprus is beautiful, doubt you'll feel the need to watch TV. |

I can get Radio4 no problem on my iPhone here in Spain. I think there are various websites that stream UK TV abroad, although the broadcasters do appear to be cracking down on them now.
The alternative as others have mentioned is to forget the UK whilst you are on holiday and have a holiday.

The BBC Iplayer app allows you to download the actual programs before you go and gives you a certain amount of time to watch them before they expire. Obviously this will only work for programs shown whilst your in the UK.
Do bars in Cyprus not have English TV's anymore? |

Thanks for the replies. It's mainly for the novelty value that I'm interested. I've just got an iPad, so I'm exploring its capabilities, and I'll take it with me - just because I can. And because I have various guides and a translator on it.
If I can't watch UK TV, I won't be especially bothered. Neo_wales, I've had a look at the website. There's an iPad app, but the add-ons are so pricey it makes me wonder what the free version will actually do. |

Thanks - I've added it to favourites, to study later.
