I plan on checking it out and I assumed the general concensus would be that it was alot better than Stallone's travesty. But it seems there's still a bit of a backlash against it.

I loved it. Far better than the Stallone one. It even got me back into reading 2000AD, which I gave up on long ago.

I thought it was a really good film and one of my favourite films of last year.To be honest I thought it did terrible at the box office but it was well received by critics and fans!

It got really good reviews but I didn't think it was brilliant. I mean, it was watchable and all, but nothing special. A lot of people seemed to love it though.

Very good, but I was a tiny bit disappointed with it after all the good reviews.

I really enjoyed it and I think it's a shame there won't be any more.

However, some people seemed to have hated it and some people seem to think it is just ok.

So I would recommend watching it to see if it is your cup of tea

Boring one-note movie with awful acting but some pretty 3D effects.
The presence of Lena Heady should be sufficient warning.

it's alright , but there's not much story , not much satire either , which I always thought was a big part of the comic .

I thought it was good in action and fx, great gory scenes. Just it was like watching a reinactment of a day, not really a story and since not seen any of the comics I was left asking why she quit, why she when to that place, what happens next and who is Dredd

I found it to be poor. It had no ambition. It was just a standard action flick and a dull one at that. I had high hopes for this film and was severely disappointed.

Oh, I forgot to mention earlier, I saw this film very soon after seeing The Raid. The overall plot is very much the same in both films!

Thought it was okay, preferred Stallone's 'I AM THE LAW' version.

DREDD was written and filmed before The Raid, despite being released afterwards.

In fact, IIRC, the script for DREDD leaked online before The Raid was made...

Ah right. I wasn't trying to suggest that one had copied the other; just that when I saw Dredd, I'd recently seen a film with a very similar plot.

Fair enough. I just wanted to point that out before people started saying that DREDD ripped off The Raid, as some said in other threads.

I'll just wait till one Xmas its aired on tv. The cinema trailers didn't sell it to me and I did like the points you made about the comic, you need the basic character qualities/ feeling in there, so might be another stallone clone..

It was OK, but Mega-City One, the citizens, weaponry, vehicles (especially the lawmaster bikes) and enemies were far better in the Stallone film, but Dredd himself was better in the new film - ideally we'd have new Dredd in the old film to replace Stallone.

I thought it was really plain. It remained situated in one location, which is fine but you need strong dialouge to get the most of that type of isolation for it to work. Also, there wasn't much action, which was disappointing for something i thought would be violent.

The look of Mega City 1 was all wrong, the Stallone movie got it a bit better. It was missing the tongue-in-cheek humour of the comic strip too, going for an ultra-violent bloodfest.

agree.mega city 1 didnt have the futuristic look of the comic or stallone version.apart from that,it was still pretty good and the better of the 2 versions.i've read theres still a chance of a sequel depending on dvd/blu ray sales.

It was a very focused film. Tight acting, lean script and minimalist plot. It's obviously a reaction to the camp humour of the first one.

Personally I think it lacks the vision needed to make a genuinely interesting film, so it's probably a 7 out of 10.

The budget was quite limited so there wasn't much chance of it ever looking as grand as Stallone's version.

Plus all the violence making it an 18 in the UK meant a lot of younger viewers would not have been able to see it, they should have toned down the violence and aimed for a lower rating, I didn't think the CGI blood was all that convincing.

I enjoyed the film a lot. It wasn't a brilliant film and Anderson wasn't that great but it ticked my boxes.
