What is the horrible see-through bit of chicken called in tesco pasta salads?

I like the chicken and basil pasta salads that you get from sainsburies, tesco and co-op. they seem to be roughly the same flavour so I imagine they are the same product supplier.

However, the bits of chicken all have some kind of circular blob in the middle that goes right the way through, it's transparent and chewy. And disgusting, obviously.

I have eaten many whole chickens before, but I've never come across this bit.

What is it, fat? Sinew?

Has anyone else noticed it.

It's most likely cartilage.

I would be taking it back if I bought such a product.

I make my own. That way, there are no nasty surprises.

no it was more like eating a soft contact lens really.

are you sure it isn't standard? I get this chicken with the stuff going through the middle like, every other time I buy the pasta salad.

You can take it back and probably get a refund but I doubt there's anything illegal. You could just register a complaint that you are unhappy with the chicken in the product.

How do I do that?
would it even make a difference.

Has anyone else seen similar then?

Look at the consumer info on the pack or just go into your local store.

That sounds disgusting I can't say I've ever seen that before (and I'm the type to inspect chicken before eating it!)

Hm. I once cooked a chicken ~ alllll by myself ~ and cut it open like a proper hostess in front of hungry diners, and found a partly melted plastic bag of giblets inside. Had to order a cooked duck from a local takeaway as a replacement. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I say I can't cook.

Take the salad back to the supermarket and go to the customer service desk perhaps?

Reminds me of the bit in The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole where his Mum does exactly the same thing with the Christmas turkey.

Good thing that free range chickens don't have cartilage, then.

It probably isn't chicken in the normal sense. More likely to be bits of sinew, feet, beaks and eyeballs, mechanically blasted off the skeleton, then bleached and steam pressed into a nugget shape.

the contact lense description sounds like it's that part of the socket where the leg attaches to the body. Much like our knee caps or our sockets which provide cushioning during movement.

In that case they could have mashed it up more lol. No it's a piece of real chicken. They sell the same in M&S so it can't be that low value.

It looks a bit like this if you use your imagination a little.
In between the main label and the circular green one theres a darker bit in that piece of chicken that could be what I'm talking about.
