I am thinking of buying a new freesat hd pvr for my caravan, but I don't have a broadband connection, will the new boxes that are enabled for iplayer etc still work without a broadband connection, ie they don't need broadband to display menu and record satellite channels just as a set top box?

The broadband connection is only for iPlayer and other peripheral services. It has zero effect on the core function which is receiving and recording TV programmes delivered via satellite.

Yes, the vast majority of Freesat boxes aren't connected to broadband, it's only required for catch-up services if you want them.

Even the new G2 Humax boxes work perfectly well without it, and G2 is far more broadband intensive.
