Improved after the break but more suited to the theatre

I enjoyed it. First episodes of sitcoms are always tough as we don't know the characters, but I laughed a few times

One of the better new sitcoms I've seen in recent years. Its a shame that so many people think the laughter is "canned". Have we really forgotten what a sitcom is supposed to be?
Funny? Which this definitely wasn't.

Yes, it doesn't really fit the show IMO.
Catchy anthem though.

It's a bit different from the average sitcom.

I think i need to watch a few episodes to see if i like it. Not too bad for a first episode.

It'd be interesting to see if any other teenagers liked it as much as I did.
It was ok!

I'll tune in next week.

That was top notch. I can see why your average ITV1 viewer in this slot might not appreciate it, but it's a good sign that ITV are willing to try to raise the bar a bit.
Agreed, (and I know that makes us sound snobbish, but I don't care).

He was gorgeous!

Definitely picking up as it goes on...
Okay just me then.

But yes that got going rather well. Laughed out loud a few times. I'll tune in again if I've got nothing better to do.

hilarious, cant wait for next week, yeah did come off a bit like a stage play but considering the leads are incredible stage actors thats a good thing, dont get why anyone doesn't like it

Actually, I'll take that as a compliment.
Aye I can just imagine you with your hand on young mens thighs

I only saw the last 15 minutes or so and thought it was okay. Only a couple of titters from me but everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves, which made it watchable. I'll give it another go next week.
Titter ye not

That was one of the unfunniest things I've ever seen. It just seems to be so beneath Sir Ian McKellan and Derek Jacobi - why are they doing in an over the top, outdated ITV sitcom like this?

I will, of course, be watching next week though.
from what I have read both of them really enjoyed filming this

I spent most of the episode admiring the set and props. The rest of it was dire. What a waste of a fabulous cast line-up!

Jaded is DS's version of Frances de la Tour so don't hold your breath
Bwahaha, she'll probably take that as a compliment

There's alot of canned laughter used in that new BBC1 sitcom - Wright Way or some such? I think Vicious is better than that. The BBCs sitcoms over the last few years have been pretty awful IMO, other than Outnumbered.
I think they probably HAD to use canned laughter for The Wright Way because surely no one could find such a load of crap funny?

I didn't laugh out loud but I enjoyed it and imagine two old gay guys who have been together forever would be like this.

Thought Ian McKellen was damn fine.

As usual, the aspiring TV critics have come out to play.

Its pretty good so far. I'm smiling, and I'm sure millions are.
Yes, god forbid people discuss their opinions of a TV show. Don't they know the goggle box is just for staring at slack jawed in silence?

As for the commenter who said this was ITV 'raising the bar'....Jesus, where was the bar before? Presumably buried a few miles beneath the other detritus of 1977 from where they dredged this warmed-over charmless crap from.

Derek Jacobi's sub Are You Being Served mincing was so shrill my dog actually got up and left the room, howling in discomfort. (I don't actually have a dog, but I went and borrowed my neighbour's specifically to make that point).
