Yes it is good to have some good old fashioned sexism and over the top campness for a change.

That was truly one of the worst things I've ever seen. Absolute cliched, overacted, badly written crap. The cast were clearly assembled before any thought was given to storyline, situation or gags, and and that's possibly the most disturbing thing about it - if it didn't feature McKellan, Jacobi et al this would get similar reviews to 'When The Whistle Blows' got in Extras. It is in fact very reminiscent of that 'show' with it's outdated scripts and performances.

Miranda must be chuffed though - hers is no longer The Worst Sitcom Ever Made, a title that I for one never thought she'd lose...

I thoroughly enjoyed it. a comedy that's not trying to be cool or relevant. Like the comedies of old really

I'm with you on this PaleHorse. DJ was so OTT. I wouldn't have found it funnier but I do think it would be much better without DJ


I can only think that something I read fairly recently after someone on DS provided a link, which said many TV producers are young men in the twenties, is true. That would perhaps explain what's passing for comedy.

I definitely enjoyed it.

I've seen worse recently. I mean "Watson and Oliver" doesn't make me laugh. I don't know how long those two have worked together but they don't seem to gel. It's like the BBC found a couple of people and tried to force a comedy double act out of them.

It's basically setup for constant bitchy insults between the couple and er, that's it.
I can't imagine there will be much in the way of plot/storyline.

I laughed a few times but thought Jacobi's character was awful.

I actually didn't mind that, it wasn't hysterically funny but there were a few laughs, and the the cast were good enough to keep me interested. Frances de la Tour had the best lines by far, and she certainly made the most of them. My biggest problem with it was Iwan Rheon's awful accent.

Why did no one put a foot down over the rape lines? It wasn't funny in the slightest.

That was my problem with it. Some good lines and in-jokes, but it's basically a barrage of one-liners. A pilot is never a good indicator, so maybe it will settle down next week, but it would probably work better as a stage play or as part of a sketch show.

I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I know it's not to everyones taste but I liked the way it was played almost like a stage play. I even managed to ignore the irritating canned laughter after about 10 minutes. Quite a few smiles and one or two laugh out loud moments for me. Over the top and camp, yes but I'll watch again next week.

I wanted to enjoy this as it starred a couple of the 'greats' and it seemed an unusual enough concept. However, it seemed dreadfully old-fashioned and tried too hard to be edgy. I don't mind unnatural dialogue in a comedy, but the type of quick-fire stuff here just didn't work for me. Both characters (who were pretty indistinguishable from one another) were clearly just saying their lines as set up for the next punchline.

Jacobi also went overboard in the camp old 'queen' impression. I don't know if anyone ever saw him in 'Frasier', but he played an old actor whom Niles and Frasier had once adored. They organised a revival of a play for him only to be horrified by his now hammy acting. Jacobi seemed to be recreating that character.

Also, can someone explain the 'Zac Efron' thing? It was apparently meant to be a joke of some kind - and it was deemed funny enough that it was repeated. To quote Stewie Griffin, 'in what way was that a joke'?!

I think it was showing their ignorance of present or popular culture. Overall pretty good show.

I really liked it. I've seen episode 2 and I have the 3rd to watch this week. I like the 70s/80s feel to it. The camp, catty humour. It's not a serious comedy and it's just tongue in cheek/light hearted. i think it's great. As for the Miranda comment above, in your opinion it's the worst comedy but that's it.. YOUR opinion. I like a whole range of comedy, old and new. Whether it's Morcambe & Wise, Two Ronnies, Only Fools, Fawlty Towers, Green Wing, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Nighty Night, Will and Grace, Modern Family, 3rd Rock, 30 Rock, Friends, Parks & Recreations, The American Office, Roseanne, Dead Like Me, Arrested Development, Cybil, Golden Girls, Vicar Of Dibley .. The list is endless. Comedy is subjective. I hope this comedy does well and at least gets a second series

For me, a massive disappointment, as I strongly suspected it would be based on the preview clips I‘d seen. Ridiculously hammy, unfunny and an utter embarrassment for all concerned.

Where was the wit, subtlety and finesse? This was devoid of any discernable humour, unless of course you find hamming it up to the nth degree remotely funny. McKellen, Jacobi and De LaTour are far better than the drivel served up here. The characters on offer here are certainly laughable - for all the wrong reasons!

Never mind ‘Viscous’ - ‘Vacuous’ would have been a more accurate title.

I liked it for what it was. And given that it's only the first episode it's bound to improve. The fag hag was my fav character.

It was ok, only ok. They need to take out most of the canned laugher though - it was very very annoying!! Didnt find it laugh out loud funny. Looks like it is made for a US audience as well.
