O/h watches this and loves it - says it's improved, which I'm glad about especially with a stellar duo headlining it.

Unfortunately I can't watch it as Iwan Rheon doing his Lancyorkchestershire accent makes me cringe into a perpetual state of spasm.
Thats almost like a line from the show! Hehe!

I'm actually rather enjoying it. It's silly, and at christmas, I want silly, but not stupid. This is cosy viewing.

I found it okay, but like the rest of the series I thought it could benefit from having a couple more writers as sometimes it feels a bit laboured (especially the insults). Also, Iwan Rheon hasn't got any comedy timing whatsoever and when he's sharing a stage with people like Frances De La Tour and Marcia Warren, who have it in buckets, it's really noticeable.

Most people I know didn't like the series when it aired:I did. With the likes of McKellan and Jacobi camping it up to the skies, and foils like Frances DeLaTour and Marcia Warren,it's pure gold to me.
Okay the yougster can't act very well, and has no comedy timing, but he is needed as another foil, and a different perspective on the closed world of the main characters, I feel?

Watched this with the family last night, who hadn't seen it before, and they thought it was hilarious. Particularly the "I'm talking about your penis" line which made my Dad choke on his wine.

It is very silly, but very funny.

It had the whole family in stitches last night, especially when Penelope confessed to sleeping with Stuart - totally unexpected and brilliant!

Completely agree. Ruined by both the Ash character and the actor playing him, and however dysfunctional Ash's family is doesn't explain why he has no other friends or why a young straight man would want to constantly hang around 2 old queens. This should, and could, be so much better.

Also agree. The show on the whole was one of the better comedies this week (although the bar was set quite low), I enjoyed the series and the one last night but the Ash guy is just too bad for words.

Agree.

Ash is rather irritating, but Derek Jacobi and Ian McKellan make a wonderful couple and do a great job of being utterly horrible to each other, yet making it clear their tremendous love for one another.

Frances De La Tour is fab as Vi. Something about her swearing and being rude that has me in fits.

Wasn't sure ITV could make a funny sitcom, but they have with Vicious.

It's the repartee between Jacobi and McKellen that I admire and enjoy so much, and the characters they play. It's nice seeing 2 old queens on telly, and I love them as actors.

Please can we have series 2?

It doesn't have to be laugh out loud funny all the time to be fun to watch.

I was extremely disappointed by this programme.

For some reason, I was convinced that the episode was an hour long. So when it finished after about 30 minutes I was, as I said, extremely disappointed.

Though maybe that's the right length - too many shows have been too long, and spoiled by being dragged out merely to fill time up.

Series 2 was commission by ITV earlier this year for Autumn 2014

Penelope is definitely the funniest character in the show with the best lines. Not sure about Ash. Nobody could behave that stupidly. I think a different actor would have been better in the part. McKellens deadpan face is priceless sometimes.

Now see, I thought that was terrible. The preceding line (something about there "only being one body part anyone needs to see" should have been her gag. What on earth was the point in explaining it, unless we're just supposed to collapse into hysterics on hearing an old lady say "penis"? It's either that or they genuinely thought audiences would be too dim to get the double entendre, so they had to make it explicit.

Yeah I thought that about Penelope last night, she was the funniest. Her facial expressions are priceless on some of them.

I don't think it's that at all. It's her character and it just adds to make it even more awkward.

I agree that the Ash character doesn't really work.

It could do with being a bit sharper.
I agree - it's still not quite hitting the spot for me. I don't see Penelope as being particularly funny, her delivery is too slow, but I rather like Ash, I think he is an integral part of the show. I still have hopes for it, but there's something missing........

I thought the series earlier on this year was OK but I was disappointed by the Christmas special. The best moment was when it was revealed that Penelope and Stuart had slept together. I thought actually seeing Violet's new boyfriend would have been good too but I suppose his absence was necessary to set up the final joke.

I thought it was quite a bit sharper than series 1. In particular it was better paced with more sight gags and withering looks used to comedic effect rather than the camp wittering on for the sake of it that characterised too much of S1.

Frances de la Tour, as always, was excellent.

I enjoyed it. It wasn't laugh out loud funny, but I still loved it. I love Frances de la Tour and she is superb in this - maybe in Series 2 she could move in with Stuart and Freddie?

I love Ash. There are plenty of stiff men in the world who are like him.

I saw an episode of this being recorded earlier in the year. Jacobi and McKellen were clearly having such a ball, and the recording was such fun. I found the first series a little hit-and-miss, but stuck with it, as I recalled how much fun the recording had been. I found the Christmas special so much better than the series - it all felt a little tighter, most enjoyable. I'm looking forward to series 2...

I think DS were a bit harsh including Vicious in their list of 2013 turkeys - the show has masses of potential, it just needs to sharpen up the writing.
