Googler TV / Android TV Boxes?
The Cricketer

HI, I swear I created a thread about this last night but cant find it. Doubt it would be deleted, anyhow....

What is it? Is it basically downloading APPS onto one these boxes & watching content on your TV via HDMI cable instead of on your smartphone?

Sony make a Google box but no one really tells you what they do & how they work. The promo literature obviously paints a very glossy image of their product.

Any advice? Thanks

This should help you to understand what Google TV is: http://www.google.com/tv/

I had an android tv stick a while back. i realised i didn't really need it because my bluray player has all the catchup stuff I need (YouTube, DailyMotion, iPlayer e.t.c..) and also has Netflix, Youtube, Blinkbox as well.

With the Sky box having a half decent VOD library as well as also having the catchup services, i realised i'd never really use it, but it's certainly useful if you don't have any of that - depending on what model you get, you can get some decent HD streaming.

I'm fancying an Android MK808 or similar Android mini PC - but I want to stream EurosportPlayer plus iplayer-itvplayer etc - would machines like this work for these apps?

I presently use a Dell 280 SFF with XP pro that's great but is can sometimes sound like a helicopter.

Thanks

Basically any apps that work on an android phone should work on this - flash might be an issue, but I think it's easy enough to get around with the various APK's of flash floating around.

I've just bought the MK808, I've only had it a couple of days so can't give a full review. But it seems good so far and I'm enjoying playing with it.

Do you get 4oD working on that? I have an Android HDMI stick from Favi, and 4oD won't work as the stick is considered "rooted" by Channel 4

Just tried it & got the message "The 4OD Player does not support viewing on a TV"

I'll have a play around and see if I can get it to work.

Yeap, looks like they blocked that road as well.

Channel 4 doesn't seem to like television do they?

It does seem a little strange, so you can watch on a tiny smartphone screen, if you have a wifi connection, but not on a TV.
