We all know the tricks well at least I do. Female pros who have an extra yard of fabric on their costumes to hide the footwork of their celebrity; Dancing in the audience to distract ius from the actual dancing....cough... Jacoby during his QS.....having so much smoke to hide the footwork like tonight with Kellie.

But Derek has done this show for a long time , he knows the drill . He knows that the audience is going to love his " genius " choreography but not the judges especially Len. He knows that he will garner sympathy votes with kellie; poor misunderstood Derek, what a genius choreographer but no one understands his creativity . He will be fine and he knows that, they might even throw them into the jeopardy box tomorrow to really anger kellie/derek fans.
I agree that a 7 was harsh but Im sure that TPTB asked Len (and the other judges ) to be harsher with them tonight because many people were actually complaining of the favoritism that he has towards Kellie; yes Im cynical like that .

I love how Kirstie Alley roots for Z and Val .

Ballroom

Zendaya and Val - Foxtrot
Really sweet. Liked the music and choreo/story. Frame looked good to me - would have liked more in hold (because it was good), but dance was so short! Great musicality. 9 or 10 (not sure what's to come...)

Sean and Peta - Tango
Gosh - Sean jilting his bride at the altar - sick joke! His bum sticks out and he's stompy. I can see he's made improvement, but there's nothing natural about his dancing - looks like the product of hard work but has no soul. 6

Jacoby and Karina - VW
Good musicality. There's no hope for this man's posture (I do realise the height difference mkes it harder). Quite a lot of faffing and distraction I think (probably sensible ). Karina's a slinky little minx, isn't she? . I have no idea what the judges were watching. 7

Ingo and Kym - Foxtrot
Terrible training VT - poor Kym . He doesn't have half Jacoby's natural ability but I preferred this by miles. Footwork looked off and the posture was erratic, but a fabulous effort after an obviously difficult week. Well done both of them for ploughing on. 8

Kellie and Derek - VW
I thought that was lovely, simple and smooth and she brought the emotion that was asked for. In hold there was gapping, but otherwise looked really good to me. 9/10

Aly and Mark - AT
So Argentine Tango counts as ballroom, huh? Of the 'good' dancers, I think Aly is most improved. Great job (and good dress!!). Could have had more staccato. A tad smooth and careful, but otherwise well done (but feel she was overmarked). 9

I gave Z and K same score, but would put Z a smidge in front with Aly third.

Ingo deserves to stay over Sean based on this dance

Zendaya/Val/Gleb/Salsa
Val short jokes - ha! Fab! Loved the choreo and the flavour and she looked completely at home dancing with two pros. The style suited her more than any other we've seen. Great. 10

Sean/Peta/Sharna/Jazz
Waddaya do with a dancer like Sean? You bring in the lovely Sharna!!! Yay!! It was a good concept and Sean wasn't completely terrible, but the ladies did the dancing. 7

Jacoby/Karina/Cheryl/Paso
Don't think they made the trio-ness happen. He had good character but I don't think he nailed the lines and I'm sick to death of seeing him jump in every routine. Karina didn't give him a whole lot to do and this didn't work for me. The girls' skirt work was great. 8

Did they change the dance order to have the two pasos and two jives together or is that just the channel I watch on?

Kellie/Derek/Tristan/Paso
Tristan's face in the VT and his leprachaun-esque, 'Welcome! Into me world' - hilarious! . I know some people don't like Derek (I don't always ) but c'mon, he's a genius at story-telling and choreo. Loved the drama, the music and the effects and Kellie was great. Len's funny turn was quite something and he had a point about it being theatrical at the expense of content, but *shrug* I loved it . 10

Ingo/Kym/Lindsay/Jive
Aw, poor Ingo. More character than most weeks. He coped well with the trio-ness, but in all honesty he didn't dance a whole lot and his feet were leaden. Not great. 7

Aly/Mark/Henry/Jive
Henry's practice trousers are horrific . Training was fun - good team. She looked lovely in the hat and another good dress. Really enjoyed the choreo/music/character/story of the dance. She copes brilliantly for someone who can't count! Her footwork was heavy, but otherwise it was really enjoyable. 9


Overall, some great dancing, good music choices and excellent choreo in these routines.

Jacoby just okay, no more.

At the bottom, by a long way, Ingo and Sean, but I found Ingo the more likeable this week.

Agree Derek is master at tricks of the trade but Kellie is meant to be this great dancer according to judges/fans so why the need to use so much smoke in both dances - can see need in certain situations just dont like it for supposedly talented partner.

Agree that 7 was way too harsh but also think 10 was way too high a score as i did agree a little with Len. Its certainly suspicious that on night Len gives two 10's to Zen/Val he also marks down his previously obvious favourite - IMO a ploy to get Kellie/Derek fans up in arms & to vote more.

While I'm not supporting Kellie & Derek, that Paso was EXCELLENT. The second best dance of the night for me (behind Z & Val's Trio Salsa, of course) and I actually thought Len was wrong in deducting a whole three marks off as I think there was more Paso content than he made out.

You couldnt even see her footwork though , and that is very important especially in a dance like the paso. I am starting to find Derek very arrogant he does things because: 1- he knows he can get away with it 2- he knows that the public is going to rebel against the judges and have sympathy for him. I dont its fair, he gets away with too many things and really know how to manipulate the audience (which is clever on his part though). Im sure he knew what Len's reaction will be but he did it to be controversial and to get his fans and kellie fans riled up !!!
My problem is that Kellie is a brilliant dancer, the best after Z so she can do so much better. Actually I was really surprised that he went down this road, why smokes and mirrors when she can dance ??? I could barely see anything . With a less than stellar partner you can do that but with someone like kellie you should just let her dance.
This is another complaint that I have with Derek, its always about HIM. It just seems like sometimes his celebrity becomes an afterthought. You are there to showcase HER talent not showcase what you can do. This is what Val has done brilliantly with Z all season and especially in the trio salsa dance, Z was the focus and like Len said they gave up their talent to make HER shine : to make Z the star, something that Derek failed to do last night.
Another thing, those 10s from C.A and Bruno for that Paso were very generous imo but because Len 7 was a bit harsh it evened things up. I'm sure that next week he will do a killer AT though and get a perfect score so no worries.

I dont know why this show want to get rid of Ingo, that Vt of him and kym was awful . In all the seasons that I have seen Kym, I have never seen her so angry.
Sean and Ingo needs to leave next.
And has anyone noticed how Jacoby barely applauds for the other contestants after each dance ? He and his mom are starting to get on my nerve !!!

You've got to admit, though, the sharpness in her arms was excellent and that's also very important. I'm saying this as a non-Kellie fan, too, of course, and I think the total score was right, and not the individuals - 3 9s would have been perfect. I'm not denying that Zendaya & Val did a lot better - as I said, they did the best that night, but it was an excellent job.

Lets agree to disagree . I think that Kellie can do so much better and doesnt need all the theatrics so thats where my main issue lies with that routine. She did well but she can do so much better and doesn't need that " extra " stuff. It was more about Derek than Kellie, the focus has to be on kellie not on how " genius " Derek is with choreography.

Sure I do agree with you though that Val is a lot better at focusing on his partner. What I find hilarious is that in a way, the theme of Zendaya being the 'princess' was similar to Maria and Derek's trio dance in S14, yet Zendaya and Val's was so much better - technically and performance-wise. D

There seems to be so much emphasis on Z doing the rumba with Val but did Aly do the rumba or did I just missed it during the serie As I haven't been really interested in her dances this season, but as far as I can remember she didn't perform a rumba right .
If yes, so why is everyone on Z and Val case ?

I didnt think that any of Aly dances deserved 10s but let me say that for the first time this season ,I think that her AT's dress was the best thing she ever wore on this show. She looked stunning . And Z's foxtrot dress was so, so, so cute .

I like what he said about Aly; she has been over-marked too many times this season. She shouldn't be 2nd and kellie 3rd.
And Sean was underscored

I really like Aly, she's my 2nd favorite behind Zendaya. I loved the enthusiasm in her Salsa, but enthusiasm doesn't mean 10s straight away.

Did she dance the rumba during the season

I think that her and Z are going to avoid it this season

Liked yours & dondfan998 convo about Kellie/Derek dance & agree wholeheartedly that he is really talented /clever dancer/choreographer but i fear his ego is getting out of control. The way he acts up in interviews & attention seeks is so much worse this season & my opinion is he does this choreography that he knows will cause controversary so he is talking point & centre of attention as this season a lot of this has been on Zen/Val & val has got lot positive feedback about his choreography & rightly so.

Really felt sorry for Kellie last night as her talents as dancer were not showcased as well as could have been & Lens OTT comments were for Derek not her & he needs to remember his critique should predominantly be of celeb skills/performance. Rant over.

Back to Val as he's being portrayed every week as Mr Grumpy/Mr intense & he's had 1wks break so he'd be my fav for that!!!

Louis is always honest but in nice way, wonder if he'd become a judge?

To be fair, I think it's all stemmed from Val. Mark hasn't mentioned Aly doing the Rumba (that I know of). There's not a whole heap of difference in her and Zendaya's age, so whatever issues a person might have struggling to make it age appropriate for one, would apply to the other. Perhaps if he hadn't made a meal of it, no one else would have .
