Now that I think about it...the producers might want to help Aly out. She should be very familiar with the samba by now. Also for the instant dance she will have 24 hrs. In previous seasons they got the music and dance style the same day and had maybe 20-30 min. to put something together.

She had a near perfect score with that dance and Len called it the dance of the season 
. I know Tris has a broken toe, so that seem quite possible.
Taking a season off and quitting the show completely are 2 different things especially if you are still under contract. At most he might take a season off but I doubt that we will NEVER see Derek as a pro on the show after this season.
