Or you can simply record the movie on Film 4 (or The Mentalist on Channel 5)
I have no recording devices.

Then tough!

This is how the world used to be! If you don't have the facility to record, then you will miss one programme. You can't have your cake and eat it too!

This form of 'entitlement' escapes me.

If you want to watch both, you should pay the price of the equipment that you would require to do so.

Else, choose one programme and feel lucky you had that.

Have you never gotten home, put the Telly on, and seen a film on film 4 you fancy that's already started?

Surely that's a situation where film 4+1 would be handy?

I'm not saying it's an infallible system, but it does increase your chances of seeing the whole movie.....

Nope, but if I had, I would simply look for its inevitable repeat, and set it for record.

With all its +1 channels and 4Seven, it's pretty much impossible to miss anything Channel 4 broadcasts. Now all we need is 4Seven +1. Mark my words, it's on its way!

Alright well let's launch Film4 +2 and FIlm4 +3 then.

It has to stop somewhere and it should've stopped long ago.

But why spend money when the option i posted about film4+1 is going to be free and if it there why not use it?

ONLY if you come in within the first 60 mins of the film starting.

I think there's more of a case for Film 4 to have a +1 channel than its sibling channels as its content is not available on 4OD for rights reasons.

Freeview is basically BBC/ITV/CH4/CH5

....and shopping channels
...
Really? I'm in Russia Today, but Yesterday I went on a Quest through the channels and ended up watching Dave

Actually a +2 or a +3 channel instead of a +1 would make more sense on a film channel.

...quite a few channels are self +3s already!

Effectively the old ONrequest was a series of +1/2h channels for (the most popular) films...

Instead of a +2 just repeat the same film every two hours (if the film is less than 2 hours long) and use the other channel for another film...

...anyway just use "YouView" to start the film when you want any time after the start of the first broadcast - or record it on a PVR and watch when you want - "chase-play" if it is still broadcasting.

Actually a +1 day would be more useful to have a choice of two films.

Well, that's not really the case is it? +1 channels give people an opportunity to watch both. The world isn't as it used to be.

Most Freeview PVRs are single tuner.

Some sets do not have built in Freeview.

+1 will stay while viewer numbers justify it to broadcasters.

That is all.

I am afraid I do not have the figures, but I would assume that a majority of viewers do not have recording devices. I would also assume that of those that do have recording devices, most viewers don't use them regularly/efficiently.

To most viewers, I guess that they put on the TV and perhaps flick through the channels 1 - 5 (a few may go up to 10). They will see nothing of any interest is on, and leave the TV on BBC One regardless.

Channel 4 obviously see the financial benefit of having Film4 +1. They believe there will be a substantial number of viewers watching it. A quick look on Wikipedia shows that Film4 +1 received 0.2% of all TV viewers (in January 2013). That compares to*:

0.2% VIVA
0.3% 4seven
0.3% 4Music
0.4% Quest
0.4% Really
0.5% 5*
0.5% Challenge

With the addition of Freeview viewers, that figure will substantially increase.

*ratings from either November 2012 or January 2013.

Also, the first LCN available is 58. That is not very attractive, I wonder how they will manage to get around that and secure themselves a better number. Perhaps swap with 4Music?

True, I keep suggesting that people use the guide...

Ha! That's a joke, isn't it?

That's exactly what some of us were hoping - and had some reason to expect - that More 4 would be like, being something roughly equivalent to BBC4. Instead of which it has mainly shown endless repeats of Channel 4's portfolio of cheap lifestyle programming.

Indeed it was even supposedly relaunched a couple of years ago with the intention of concentrating on this type of output (which it was doing already anyway) but I haven't actually detected any change in its emphasis since and there has still been the odd programme here and there which is more the sort of thing such a channel might have been expected to provide. In fact, there are actually just a few hints that maybe they are moving a bit more in this direction with a number of interesting programmes starting to apear in the schedules, but it's too early yet to see if this is a permanent shift. We live in hope, but at the moment More 4 is hardly what they led us to believe it was going to be.
More4 did start off as a serious competitor to BBC4 with documentaries, good US dramas, etc. but at the start of last year a decision was made to focus more on lifestyle programming (dumbing down ) and that's unfortunate. At one time, Channel 4 used to do Equinox science documentaries that could rival those of the BBC but alas no longer.

Let say a movie starts at nine on film 4.That you been looking forward to seeing. But you want to watch The mentalist on channel 5 which is also on at nine. With the help of film 4+1 you can watch both.

The mentalist channel 5 @9pm.
The movie film 4+1 @10pm.
Indeed, tomee, and it's also potentially useful if you come in late and can therefore watch/record all of the film right from the beginning. It's certainly not a complete waste of space like the tat shopping channels and the slapper channels.

We still don't no if it replacing a channel or using new spaces.
