Questions about the Live Update forum
Laggy

OK so it looks as if the FM's will be doing the majority of the live updates in the new forum section.

Just a quick question/query.

Are the Live Updates to be kept seperate from the WHATM threads as people tended to comment along with the action.. so prehaps keep the WHATM in the general BB section and anyone who wants to write serious updates only (as they will dispayed on the website) can stick to the Live Update section or is it all to go into one thread.

When posting the update (in the Live Update section) do we need to write the time or will the forum clock be used?

In the live update section will the threads be kept to one hour each, or does the 2 hour rule apply here to?

Previously sometimes I and others posted screencaps in the WHATM threads of what is happening, will this be allowed in the Live Update section or not?

Good Luck to everyone who will be posting updates in the wee hours!

I see the difficulty of trying to seperate 'comment' and 'riposte' from the straight reporting of events.

See how it goes !!

If we are starting WHATM threads anyway in the main forum, the live updates might seem a bit tame by comparison if there's no banter.

When I first started on the net it was during BB2 and I used to look at another site. They had two threads running, one for straight reporting or running commentry as they called it, one for discussion. It seemed to work, though there was inevitable overlap.

I'm not surprised that this sort of system will be tried as there was a lot of complaints from people wanting just live updates at having to read chat type comments.

The disadvantage of this system is that if you are contributing live updates there won't be opportunities for banter with other members. Still, probably best to wait till the system is working tommorow to see how things work.

Looking forward to the night threads again. No alarm this time, fingers crossed.

I prefer the old way of live updates because I used to read them using my mobile via WAP. Looking at the DS forums on my phone is a nightmare

I suppose its the old adage - you can't please everyone all the time. Well done to everyone who will be keeping the DS:BB Bunker open for wholesome updates!

well I won't say the new type of thread won't work, but whats in it for anyone who wants to post in the thread ? My impression was we posted cos we were allowed to give our opinion too and it was all about banter and talking while watching the feeds.

I can understand from a non-feed lurkers point of view if they are only wanting updates, but I think most posters posted cos they could give their opinion and thats what made the thread addictive . IMHO thats why it was a success

I suppose someone can always start up an alternative "live update with opinion" thread on the forum. If they do, IMHO everyone will pile in there.

The WHATM Threads for BB5 were very popular - and they were a mixture of chat, opinion and updates. For people who wanted just the basic update information then DS provided a live update through their Forum Reporters. No reason why the two can`t exist side-by-side again. The whole point of the WHATM Thread was to have a bit of banter as well as live updates.

Mind you, this time around, much time might be spent discussing who the heck these so-called celebrities actually are!

I thought that was odd too. I didn't realise there was a no swearing rule for the forums, if there was i've been breaking it for 4 years.

I think its just for the Live Update forum as I read it the posts will also be displayed on the DS:BB main site. We will have to wait and see how it pans out later on.. I think that there is going to have to be two seperate threads as suggested, one with updates with comments (WHATM) and another with pure updates.

I see. I'd assumed that the WHATM threads were going to be replaced with the 'only updates' format in the new forum. That's not so bad then.

Oh I hope the WHATM stays. it was great getting up & saying goodmorning to all hours before the HM awoke LOL ( & I was never first up either LOL).

Seriously alot of the WHATM threads explained & extended the context of some small but relevant & amusing incidents that otherwise may go amiss.

Not that I am getting excited or anything

Another very good place for live updates is www.************* - it's something between a chat room and a message board, very friendly with some quick fingered updaters. You mark your message if it's a live update so people can choose to read either the whole commentary / chat or the 'pure' updates.

One can never have too many BB updates!

Ah, I see why the two are needed to be kept seperate now. The Live Update forum posts get put here to: http://bigbrother.digitalspy.co.uk/live/ so general comments wouldn't really fit in.

There wont be any more Live Updates from Reporters during BB.

New DS policy.
