It's just like that time he was going to quit after series 6: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...Hollywood.html

The article makes no sense:
"Matt refused to commit to a Doctor Who future beyond Christmas when interviewed on Jonathan Ross’s show last week." Well nothing has been commissioned yet following the Christmas special so how can Matt commit to it? How does someone commit to something that doesn't exist? Besides, Moffat said in an interview recently that Matt would be the Doctor forever

I was just casually visiting The Sun site and found the news on the homepage! Speechless!

Producer Marcus Wilson said on the Richard Bacon Radio Show last week, "We love Matt. We want to keep Matt as long as possible."

So, in summary: it's unlikely to be true and isn't something we all knew anyway.

I'll believe it when he personally or an official source confirms it. The sun always say 'insiders' or 'a source' which gives them an excuse to make stories up in leading up to the new episodes and grabs people's attention.
All that's been said is nothing's confirmed |

Oh please, please, please be true!
I have waited so long for this and maybe Dr Who Lite (AKA Dr Who Zero Gravitas) can get back it's old adult audience and still be suitable for the whole family. Basically the great drama that it became under Eccleston and Tennant. So stunningly good, you forgot that it was Dr Who. Then Smith arrived... |

As a matter of interest, which bits do you feel were for kids as opposed to the family and/or adults? |

the sun talk alot of rubbish, papers should be forced to reveal there so called 'sources'
i would think having a regen at christmas isn't on the cards for 1 reason.. it's christmas,it's about the happy doctor running around christmas tree's saying cheesy lines..the christmas episodes are a bit of fun not serious regeneration moments i reckon he'll do half series 8 then go |

Great shame if its true - I've only just started to really enjoy Matt's Doctor, with Clara joining as the new companion.
And to be fair, it was also the Sun who broke the news the Christopher Ecclestone had quit. |

but i do agree. If his contract is up in november (sounds like their "source" obviously know their stuff) i'd guess he'd do whatever series 8 eps are filmed before then. |

Thank god for that IMO. When he joined I quit watching all together and have tried numerous amounts of times to warm to him, but I just couldn't. Clara looks like a good companion, hope they find a better replacement this time.
IMO I would like to see someone like Tom Hardy play the Dr. |

He's refused to confirm it. There is a difference!
![]() 'Doctor Who': BBC plays down Matt Smith Christmas departure reports . . . the BBC said in a statement: "Sorry folks, but even we don't know what's going to happen at Christmas. It's not been written yet! "But Matt loves the show and is to start filming the unmissable 50th anniversary, and the new series starting on Easter Saturday." |

I would be happy if he moved on soon.
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013...n_2930028.html Matt - who will begin filming the 50th anniversary episode next month - is understood to not want to renew his contract, which expires in November, so he can focus on cracking Hollywood. Speaking on Jonathan Ross's show last week, Matt said: “I am very happy doing ['Doctor Who']. I do the anniversary special, then the Christmas special. At the moment it’s 2013 and we will see what 2014 holds.” Matt's star has continued to rise since signing up to play the Time Lord in 2009 for £200,000 a year. It is thought he now earns five times that amount. He has just finished filming 'How To Catch A Monster' with Ryan Gosling, which is due for release next year and also has his eye on a role in the next James Bond film. “I’m not handsome enough to be James Bond. Maybe a villain though," he told The Sun. "Start campaigning now. I don’t think I could be James Bond though.” Last night, the BBC said in a statement: “Sorry folks but even we don’t know what’s going to happen at Christmas. It’s not been written yet! But Matt loves the show and is to start filming the unmissable 50th anniversary, and the new series starting on Easter Saturday.” |
