Combined Performance

O2 delivered the strongest overall mobile performance in Leicester and won the combined performance category.

Mobile internet speeds across the entire Leicester area

O2 delivered a 1st place average download speed of 3.4 Mbps.
◦At 3.4 Mbps, weve found that it generally takes up to 15 seconds to download a 2 MB file

All the results are contained on the website:

Yup Three came second just a few points behind O2 in Leicester. Call performance was noted as "inditigishable" so they called it a draw between O2, 3 and Voda. Three had the best text performance and best upload speeds, but but pipped at the post by O2's download speeds of 0.6 Mbps more than Three in Leicester.

http://www.rootmetrics.com/uk/compar...2013/#combined

Three were top in Bristol
http://www.rootmetrics.com/uk/compar...ol-march-2013/

also in Nottingham
http://www.rootmetrics.com/uk/compar...am-march-2013/

also in Leeds and Bradford
http://www.rootmetrics.com/uk/compar...rd-march-2013/

in 3 out of the 4 reports out in March Three was the best network, just once it came second to O2 by a few points. An absolute amazing performance from the fastest growing network in the UK.

Good work Wave

As expected the ^^ 3 promotion ^^ continues unabated with a repeat of the results posted from other areas in a thread about a result for Leicester. Utterly shameful but not unexpected!

One has to wonder what the true agenda for such behaviour is?

Anyway, nice to read some confirmation that coverage and performance differs across the UK which has been proved often by contributions from members in various threads.

Indeed coverage and quality does vary from area to area, of the areas surveyed so far the winners were:

Three in:
Birmingham
Bristol
Cardiff (non 4G)
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Hull
Leeds
Bradford
London
Liverpool (non 4G)
Manchester
Newcastle
Nottingham
Sheffield (non 4G)

O2 in:
Leicester!

I only select to view some of the propaganda posted now. Certain individuals are on ignore on the advice of the mod team.

What some post is totally predictable and past the point of worthwhile reading. If I want to hear how brilliant 3 is I just go and visit their website and get it straight from the horse's mouth!

Thine: Edinburgh & Glasgow were also Pre EE4G.. In fact they were Pre Orange integration so EE & Three are likely to be much better now.

Agreed, where there's EE 4G that is going to be the winner, but then they got an exclusive head start.

But that same exclusive has allowed the UK to get all 4 networks 4G this year....
It would still be a school yard spat otherwise.

Just had to check Ronan Dunne didn't live in Leicester

I can only imagine it was an error in investment by an accountant at O2, and that they have been severely reprimanded for the overspend and have promised it'll never happen again

Wave that's a joke by the way

Says the man who started a whole thread to try and promote O2?

You really are the worst offender when it comes to network-related bias.

Nowhere near as bad as some who create threads almost daily to promote other networks....get real and try to be proportionate.

The reason this thread was created was to create some balance because certain others would definitely not have posted anything remotely positive about O2 or any other network for that matter apart from the one they promote even in threads that do not relate to that topic.

The evidence of bias is clear from posts in this thread. Compare what has been contributed in other threads where root metrics data has been discussed and a clearer picture of who is posting what might become apparent.

I'm confident that the same points will be repeated again below by the same contributor, just to clarify the extent of bias!

It certainly has created balance. The fact that of all the places Root Metrics have been, 15 major cities in the UK, in the largest ever professional research study, performing 390,828 tests in 11,662 miles of driving and at thousands of indoor locations that in every case but one city, Three was the best performer (excluding 4G).

Only in Leicester was Three not the overall highest scorer, and Three was best in Leicester for text performance and upload speed and call performance was indistinguishable the report claimed. The only difference was a 0.6 Mbps higher download speed on O2, aside from that Three was the highest ranking in every other area:

Three
Birmingham
Bristol
Cardiff (non 4G)
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Hull
Leeds
Bradford
London
Liverpool (non 4G)
Manchester
Newcastle
Nottingham
Sheffield (non 4G)

O2
Leicester

EE/ T-mo / Orange
Only ranked best in 3x 4G areas

Vodafone
Wasn't the best performing network in any location.

No-one is behaving the way you claim.
The more you sit there and try to claim that everyone else is at fault and not you is not only ridiculous, it's more than a little sad.

The reason this thread was created was to create some balance...
What a crock.
You use that excuse every time and, you know what, it doesn't get any more believable each time you roll it out.

The evidence of bias is clear from posts in this thread.
Yeah, it is - starting a thread to selectively highlight a single test that suits your agenda despite it clearly not reflecting the larger reality proves how biased you are.
...a clearer picture of who is posting what might become apparent.
It's been clear since I joined the forum and nothing's changed since.

To be fair I did start a thread about Bristol, which was one of 4 reports out by Root Metrics out for March. I didn't reference the others as I came to the report from a link on ThisIsBristol, although of course I've posted various Root Metrics results before. I think it's really useful to see some independent and professional testing being done on a large scale. It helps my case / argument that I've been saying for a long time which is that Three is a great network.

A couple of people realised that O2 had come out top in one city and that I hadn't opened a thread about that (I hadn't opened a thread about the other areas where Three came top in March reports either). They have rightly highlighted this, but it's kind of backfired a bit as it has highlighted again just how good Three is if they have got the highest result in every area but one!

As I posted in the Bristol thread, they are doing Belfast at the moment and I do not expect Three to come top of that, they may even be bottom of the list because of the order of the MBNL integration out there. Three is only just seeing improvements in Belfast that have been made in the rest of the UK long ago, so expect 2 areas where O2 come top when the Belfast report comes out.

Another thing I accept is that we've been dealing with cities until now and that rural coverage may be different, although my experience of rural coverage has been ok. Nobody is going to beat O2 for 2G talk and text coverage in very rural areas if that's what you need.

Oh and starting several other threads about the same organisation's tests to promote another agenda isn't? (Not to mention polluting this one with multiple posts repeating the same tired promotion).

How hypocritical!

Personalisation to follow below no doubt...... all off topic of course....... I think I am being stalked despite keeping certain network supporters on ignore!

At least I'm posting different reports as they come out area by area with a comparison of how each network performed in calls, texts, data etc. Better than this crap huh?

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...6&postcount=32

The best thing to look at is the comments of 3 customers.

The link below provides access to comments on a pretty reputable site but to be fair negative comments are always more likely to be posted than positive ones.

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...0&postcount=45

Ha Ha Ha...... selective belief depending on which company a statement applies to!

Love it!

Meanwhile www.reviewcentre.com has plenty of disgruntled customers still posting complaints about 'Britain's Biggest 3G network', coverage!

I'm sure lots get good coverage from 3 and so do millions on O2 the pity is the exaggeration some post here and most of it is supposition!

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...6&postcount=59

I don't think folks here need constant marketing statements promoting one operator's services. Most can make up their own minds and the most reliable feedback about any service comes from local contacts who have experience of the it. Next best is customer reviews on the web like this independent site: http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html which gives real accounts of present levels of service from genuine customers across the UK. !

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...7&postcount=52

Rarely does anyone moan about O2's coverage or data reliability but they do moan about billing, customer service etc. The same cannot be said for the network supposedly 'built for the Internet',

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html (3)

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews145.html (O2)

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews172.html (Orange)

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews71.html (T-Mobile)

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews101.html (Vodafone)

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...3&postcount=22

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

Tells you all you need to know. Frequently updated and appended independent consumer reviews and just 17,8% of 3 contributers to that site would recommend them.

It's not just Ofcom that have evidence of poor customer satisfaction re 3 UK.

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...5&postcount=12

It's not been good for me and has been a call dropper for years. I only use it now as a PAYG backup.

Reviewcentre have a large number of review conributions (900+) about 3, other networks are reviewed too:

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...88&postcount=8

The issue with 3 is still roaming when the 3G signal becomes unstable.

It really is down to experimenting and finding out from friends and family how good the network you want to join is in the areas you intend to use it in. Another factor must be customer service and the link below provides information from 3 users on an independent review site. There are others including the excellent moneysavingexpert site to consider.

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=38331005&postcount=26

The 3 network drops cals all the time in my area has being doing so for years...

Whats new?

Read some consumer feedback and comments at www.reviewcentre.com and www.moneysavingexpert.co.uk to get some 1st hand user experiences.

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=35034165&postcount=4

Plenty of evidence to support that coverage and call reliability seems still to be a big issue with feedback on independent review sites. Hope the link below is helpful.

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24883632&postcount=2

You pays your money and takes your chance!!

Read some independent reviews at http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

Hope this helps and remember its the total amount you are commiting to pay over the length of the contract that is the real cost.

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24883632&postcount=2

You have to watch out as 3 is ropey in terms of call reliability. Best deals on this handset seem to be with an 18 month contract on 3.

I dont think I'd want to take a chance living with 3 for 18 months, 12 is bad enough.

Check out recent genuine customer reviews at the following websites:

www.reviewcentre.com www.grumbletext.co.uk

also www.talk3g.co.uk - New Independent 3G customer forum

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=4301939&postcount=8

"It's taken them 2 years, but they finally have handsets that can hold on to the signals."

Famous last words...... what about the 1000's lumbered with Nokia 7600's, Motorolas, LG's and NEC's that dont work properly. Sad fact is that some folks sung the praises of those when they appeared and in reality they were little better than the launch handsets. Current price levels/promotions and dealer subsidies provide a clue as to the quality of the product (which is severely restricted in terms of 3G). Good idea to check out the independent reviews that real customers provide at http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html.

I will be moving from 3 later this year when my contract expires and am looking forward to trying 3G technology from one of the other networks.

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=5933580

Checkout some customer feedback at this independent consumer review site, 3 UK seem to attract a great many more complaints in proportion to the number of customers they serve than any other network.

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=7046255&postcount=12

A good place to get customer reviews about 3 and other mobile netwoks is here: www.reviewcentre.co.uk Real people tellling things in their own words. Worth checking out.
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=16881002&postcount=32

Good idea to check out some independent review sites before making a commitment.

Reviewcentre has about 200 customer reviews about 3 including some very recent ones:

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

Another useful source of consumer reviews is Mrtin Lewis's Money Saving Expert Forum.

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14141819&postcount=9

A good place to read customer comments about products and services is Reviewcentre.

They have sections on all the mobile phone networks where users can leave feedback about ther experiences.

Their 3 section is here: http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

BTW Nobody apart from selected 3 employees have been on the network for 5 years as it lauched on the 3rd of March 2003!!

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=17149012&postcount=33

Well Mr 3 salesperson look here: http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews12640.html

Some independent consumer reviews...

3 have had their own coverage and that of 02's for years... and it was not successful. They now use Orange as fallback and their 1800Mhz network is less robust than the 900Mhz GSM 02 provided as fallback.... so...??
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=13034513

Oh dear.... another load of 'shoot the messenger' above.... I have simply posted links to information about 3 and other companies and can't be held responsible for their accuracy.

3 have never had 4.5 million customers in the UK. They peaked at about 3.7 million and recent redundancies provide a clue as to where that number has been heading. (See above article for information on dealer support).

There are some good deals in 3 Stores but one has to be aware of the volume of dissatisfaction that has remained with the brand since its launch in 2003. Independent sites like www.reviewcentre.com provide constantly updated consumer comments which are a useful reference before enetering into a potentially expensive and lengthy contract agreement.

That would be a waste of time as I have already hit ignore so the thread would be dead on arrival!

Thanks for making the joke ...

Sadly the joke is that most don't actually see the extent of the network promotion some do on this board.

A look back at the comments on this thread and the responses confirms that.

Still humour helps.... sadly the propaganda infecting lots of threads will continue for as long as contributors on here want to tolerate the type of bias that has been evident in this thread.

No - I don't accept that at all.... I don't own an O2 phone, have never been an O2 customer other than on PAYG and with GiffGaff but I can't stand the tripe posted by people who continually diss O2 despite it's obvious success in satisfying the 23 million customers it serves.

I don't promote O2 at all. I simply provide some balance when the 'O2 hate brigade' spearheaded by the No 1 3 UK promoter decide to infect threads with ridiculous negative nonsense based on their own very limited use of the network and their untypical use of mobile networks in general.

I expect the usual personalised nonsense to follow, If it breaches the terms of this site I will have it removed. Be warned.

TBH most of the O2 hate on here now is because people know it will irritate certain individuals.
This forum is generally balanced (if you stay away from the Andriod sucks / Apple sucks silly threads).

So not a customer, no longer a GIffgaff customer, on Three or at least you were the last time I checked (you just stated you want to give them another chance suggests your not)
Do you work for Telefonica, O2, O2 Retail or one of its call centres? As I don't understand why you would defend so harshly a company that you don't even use.

At least I used to be employed by, still use, trial and have family/friends within both EE & Three. Otherwise I wouldn't even bother with this forum.

As stated previously, if Telefonica provide publically funded UK education services then I may be employed by them. If they don't fund that sector then I'm not and never have been.

Nothing like trying again to make things personal! Some can't resit it!

Why isn't the same question being asked of those who continually promote Hutchison 3G UK on the forums?
