Hello,
I want to buy a PS3 for my boyfriend. I have noticed that you can get a 12GB or a 500GB. My question is what limitations will there be if I just get the 12GB? Is it worth paying that much more for a 500GB?
Cheers

You can actually upgrade the hard drive size at a later stage if you need to. Also do you mean 120 gb? But I would personally advise to go for the smaller model and if more space is required find a cheap laptop hard drive when it is finally needed - if he is to become a PSN + member he will likely need a lot of space eventually.

I'd say go for the 500GB one it saves the hassle of running out of disk space and needed to buy a new harddrive etc, you just need to sit back and have fun

With the 12GB you'd run out of space after about 3 or 4 games

The main limitation with the 12GB is that he would have to keep deleting game installs if he plays lots of different games, if he's the kind of guy who plays only Call Of Duty and FIFA then it's not going to be a problem.

It depends how much 25-30 means to you.

A 12GB PS3 is 155 on Amazon, and a compatible 500GB HDD with the PS3 caddy will cost 50.

A 500GB Ps3 is 230. and you don't have to do any fiddling about.

The process of installing the new HDD is super-easy, it takes five minutes and requires nothing more than a screwdriver, and if that 25-30 would be better used on a game then it's well worth considering.

This is what you would need to get:

and
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlaySta...sr=1-1-catcorr
Plus a 12GB PS3, obv.

I got a bigger hard drive for my ps3 and its extremely easy to change. I found a video on YouTube of a guy showing you how to change it and its easy peasy. All you need to worry about is the hard drive being in FAT32 format.

Go for the 500gb console. 12gb is not a lot of space.

FAT32 formatting is only necessary when hitching an external HDD, the PS3 formats New internal HDD drives by itself.

Oh yeah I forgot. It was only the hard drive from my old PC that I had to reformat.

Go for the 500 because the only thing anyone wants to do when they get a PS3 or any games console, is play games and not worry about if they'll have enough room on the HDD.

He might want to use the Store for some games or movies, if so, then he could run into problems on day one, nobody needs that when they're excited about what they can be doing.

It's just not worth it, 500 is best unless you know for a fact he only wants it to play a few certain games.
