If he was The Doctor, would he have to wear a suit or something more casual?

I like Laurence Fox and he would be quite a straight up Doctor unlike the other 3

Never heard of him,
Google?

Anyway to save you the time, he was one of the leads of the very popular 'Lewis' for seven years; and also Billie Piper's husband.

And to answer the OP, I don't really see it I'm afraid.

No - he's awful.

Always comes across as an arrogant t*sser.

Maybe, as long as his wife doesn't come back.

All I know is that my life will always be poorer without Detective Sergeant Hathaway in it.

One of the finest sleuths to ever grace a screen.

Matt Berry from Garth Marenghi's dark place would be fantastic as the Doctor. A bit of a hippy doctor with a guitar, straw hat and wellies (looking like a festival goer)

Sacha Baron Cohen (Ali G) would also make a fantastic who.

Laurence Fox no, I think its time for a truely oddball doctor.

Agree.

I don't really see him as the Doctor.

But I would certainly watch and give him a trial if he was cast.

Ah. I never watched Morse or Lewis so that'll be why I've never heard of him.

As for 'google', shouldn't the onus be on the OP to say where people might know him from, especially when it's only one role?

Lorelei, as ever we think alike.

(I was hoping for a Hathaway spin off. Sadly, not to be. )

I really liked him in Lewis but I can't see him as the Doctor.

Granny, you are my cosmic sister.

Here's hoping that Endeavour will help fill the space that Lewis has left.
However, having seen the pilot, I know that young Morse - good as he is - can't replace our Hathaway.

Sorry for going off topic everyone but this thread had expired anyway.

Back on topic - I don't think Laurence Fox would be cast as the Doctor, he's very contained.
I don't see him doing all the wild gestures and over-the-top body and facial movements that the recent incarnations of the Doctor have displayed.
Laurence is more suited to subtlety and quiet reserve, not eccentricity.
Nonetheless, I'd watch Laurence Fox in anything. He's pure class.

I managed to catch up on my telly programmes and watched The Lady Vanishes, what a great team Tom Hughes and Tuppence Middleton would make as a future Doctor and his companion.

I don't usually feel interested in "who should be the Doctor?" speculation, and it may just be that I've been watching too much Rome (again), but I really think either Kevin McKidd or even better, James Purefoy, would be great. And a big and refreshing contrast to recent Doctors.

Indeed.

It's sometimes a very frustrating business being a fan of the original series, when some people don't even acknowledge its existence, and believe that Eleven is Three and that fifty years ago was 2005.
