Optical to Analogue (L/R) Converter Box
Getting Tivo on Friday and rather frustrated to find that it's only got an optical out for surround sound and my ancient durabrand (from asda..) surround sound isn't up to scratch.
I have, however, literally just seen that these things are available .. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-Op...item48488f2173 .. and was wondering if anyone knew if they are any good ?. I should stress here that i'm in no way any kind of audiophile or anything like that, so the likes of DTS or 5.1 quality or anything like that really isn't a concern for me at all. I'm just interested in whether or not it will do the job and allow me to continue to use my existing system to get working surround sound ? There's also this as well, which is an even cheaper option .. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scart-Adapte...9149624&sr=8-8 I should point out that my TV does have the RCA Audio sockets, but, for some reason, they don't seem to work. Obviously if I can resolve that issue then it's problem generally solved, but these are two other solutions I suppose. Cheers

And another question .. this picture shows part of the back of my telly.
http://i46.tinypic.com/2yvv681.jpg Can the COAX(Audio Out) connector be used with a converter for an RCA-based surround system? This adapter .. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Switchable-S...8328387&sr=8-2 .. actually does appear to be the one I'll need though, as it's actually recommended by someone on the Virgin Tivo Forum. |

The SCART adaptor seems the beast (and cheapest) way to go.
The coaxial out is digital (same as optical - just minus the LED). |

Just thought i'd follow up for the sake of reference in case anyone in the future finds themselves googling for the same problem.
Got the SCART adapter today and tested it out on my Sky Box and it works like an absolute charm so really can't see any problems with it doing the same on the TiVo box tomorrow. |
